Saw an article today that the league wants thigh and knee pads mandatory for the 2013 season. Saw in the same article that the NFLPA says the move should be negotiated and there was a very long paragraph about collective bargaining, etc. Okay, saw on the same page of the paper an article that Eric Dickerson has joined the lawsuit about concussions and the league not doing enough, etc. Here is my question--How can the NFLPA say they support one area of safety (concussions) while opposing it in another? Oh yeah, because concussions bring news and lawsuits and money, and all those knee and leg injuries don't. Please tell me that I am being unnecessarily cynical.

Aren't these related? Knee and thigh pads won't prevent knee/thigh injuries (they're not braces, and these guys aren't skateboarders trying to avoid roadrash)... they'll help prevent concussions. There can't be any other reason... again, ask yourself what the pads would help prevent.

If you don't believe me, clearly you've never been kneed in the head while playing football/soccer/drunkenly fighting your friends.

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

Since my sarcasm detector isn't working well today... Anyway, my question has to do with the fact that the NFLPA wants everything under the sun done for concussions (the trendy subject de jour) yet screams about collective bargaining and arbritrary actions and whatnot on a VERY important safety issue. Just asking, that's all.
