Okay, I'm starting to develop an idea of how things went down....

PIOLI: Romeo, we'd like to offer you the job.
RAC: I'd like to take the job, provided you'll let me fix the roster.
PIOLI: Of course.

--three days later--

RAC: I think Zorn would be good as OC.
PIOLI: Great. Me too.
RAC: He has some great ideas about who we could get at quarterba....
PIOLI (interrupting): Matt Cassel is our quarterback.
RAC: I thought you said I could fix the roster.
PIOLI: You can. That part isn't broken.
RAC: sonofabitch.

--four hours later, on the phone--

RAC: Jim, the job is yours, but there's a catch.
ZORN: It better goddamn well not be Matt goddamn Cassel.
RAC: ....
ZORN: Uhhh.... I got a call on the other line.

--one week later--

RAC: I don't know why Zorn isn't picking up his phone, Scott.
PIOLI: We'll have to start looking elsewhere. What about McDaniels?
RAC: Pretty sure the fans would lynch us.
PIOLI: Charlie Weis?
RAC: Uhhh.... I think he's got a job....
PIOLI: Got it. Brady. Tom Brady.
RAC: Definitely already has a job.
PIOLI: Who else is there?
RAC: (names every remotely qualifed position coach not from the Patriots)
PIOLI: What about Daboll?
RAC: You know he's not any good, right?
PIOLI: Yeah, Daboll.
RAC: Seriously, I've seen this guy in action. Bad idea.
PIOLI: Are you sure?
RAC: Positive.
PIOLI: .... because he knows a lot about chowder....
RAC: Goddamnit.

Well, until we see for sure whether or not the Chiefs plan to make no actions to improve their position at QB, I'll hold off on too much criticism of the Daboll comment about 'I've seen Cassel in action, etc, etc' - because at the end of the day he works for the Chiefs, therefore, as with most other teams in the NFL, his press conferences are going to be filled with a lot of regurgitated company lines and non-boat shaking comments about personnel that is obviously lacking. He could have gone out there and said, 'I like the receivers, looking forward to the return of JC, and I'm really excited about drafting a QB or going after one in FA to replace Matt Cassel....'

That just isn't realistic, especially for a team that is run by Pioli, who brought with him the NE tendency to give very very little away in Press Conferences. I mean, did any of you count how many times Gronk had to say 'taking it day by day' or 'one day at a time' in his pregame press conferences? The team rammed that down his throat and told him not to veer from that direction.

Well, no. He could say whatever the hell he felt like. When asked about Cassel in his first conference, Charlie Weis said something to the effect of "he's a quarterback that plays on my team."

"What do you like best about Matt Cassel"

"He's on our team"

That was classic.

Daboll gave almost the exact same answer when he was hired when asked about Chad Henne..

"He's on our team.".

So what I gather is that Daboll likes Cassel more than Chad Henne. That's probably valid.

Not really.

Matt Cassel minimized mistakes in 2010 by not taking any chances.

Chad Henne has a propensity for making bad decisions and taking unnecessary risks, and that's a problem that has plagued him since college.

However, from a pure talent standpoint, Cassel couldn't sniff Henne's jock.

From a pure talent standpoint most Qb's can't sniff Jeff George's jock.

He still sucks.

Don't give a rat's ass.

There is no valid reason for liking a no talent game manager over a kid that has actual talent.

You might never be able to coach up a talented dumbass, but you are never going to be able to instill talent into someone who doesn't have it.

Who cares? We're not talking about your opinion nor are we talking about MY opinion.

What I said was based on Daboll's response when asked about Cassel and Henne. His answers indicated he's as big a fan of Henne as Weis was of Cassel. Their response was exactly the same.

When asked about Cassel, Daboll actually...you know... talked about stuff.

Perhaps I misunderstood.

I thought you were saying that there's some valid reason for DaBoll to like Cassel better than Henne

Not at all. It's simply the impression I've gotten from what he's said. It's purely speculative.
