Kcchiefs.com has started their review of positions and players. Further, the draft is the next thing we arguably have to look forward to during a long offseason that hasn't even started yet. For something to do, I thought it would be interesting to have folks rate our current lineup. This should indicate potential draft and FA targets.

Copy/paste the depth chart (or whichever players you feel like rating) and annotate using a rating system of 1 to 7 (see below). Assume injured players will return to full capacity and current free agents will be retained (dangerous assumptions, I know). Feel free to add in role players if you would like (McCluster, etc...). Add in justification where you see fit.

For simplicity, think of the rating system like this:

1 = Terrible, liability of the field, high-priority for replacement
2
3
4 = Middle-of-the-road, average. Approximately half the starters in the league at this position are worse, half are better.
5
6
7= Exceptional, strength on the field, few (if any) players in the league are playing better.

LT - Albert -
LG - Lilja -
C - Weigmann -
RG - Asamoah -
RT - Richardson -

I like our defense. When healthy the worst players on the field are Lewis and Belcher, and neither guy sucks. Both are solid but not real great players. Lewis came on strong late in the season though. Not sure if that was just a hot streak or a sign of ascending skill.

I believed McClain to be a good fullback, but I cannot say his body of work from last season impressed me. He was especially terrible as a lead blocker.

I do like our defense all around. I wish we could muster more of a pass rush, but perhaps Romeo can do some work with what we have in Hali and Houston. We just need other guys to be able to win in 1-on-1 pass rush situations more often. Otherwise, from the linebackers to the DB's, I think we have a strong group. Belcher gets the lowest grade there, but I think he does exactly what he's asked to do. DJ might merit a 7 if he can simply continue to do what he's doing. I also like Lewis back there - he just needs to stay healthy.

Offensively, Lilja and Weigmann get below average grades because I know they are on the decline and need replacing. Most others, with the exception of Charles, are middle of the pack to me.

EDIT: Went back and added all the scores together to create a composite for O, D, and ST for everyone.

I like how on a scale of 1-7, Richardson has been rated a 2, 1, 0, and -1,000 so far. :jester:

Offense: 50
LT - Albert -5 (might have been our best lineman, but was inconsistent)
LG - Lilja -4
C - Weigmann -4 (who knows about Hudson)
RG - Asamoah -5
RT - Richardson -1 (2 would be more honest though, since he was alright as a run blocker)
TE - Moeaki -4
WR1 - Bowe -6
WR2 - Breaston -5
WR3 - Baldwin - 3 (he's just a rookie, but his production was actually pretty weak)
FB - McClain - 3
HB - Charles - 7
QB - Cassel -3

Defense: 63
DE1 - Jackson -5 (underrated as a run stopper)
DE2 - Dorsey -5
NT - Gregg -4
OLB1 - Hali -7
OLB2 - Houston -5 (and on the rise)
MLB1 - Belcher -4
MLB2 - Johnson -7
CB1 - Flowers -6
CB2 - Carr -6
CB3 - Arenas -4
S1 - Berry -6 (Oh, what a difference Berry should make)
S2 - Lewis -4 (would be a 5 if he was more consistent, Berry may help that)

Special Teams: 16
K - Succop -5 (looks like he might start living up to his potential)
P - Colquitt -6
KR - Arenas -5 (statistically solid, but not a big play returner)
