I dunno... Kennedy and Haley and all that are great and I know Guards don't get any run...
But Will Shields was better at his position than any of those guys were at theirs. He was the best interior linemen I've ever seen.

No doubt watching Will Shields pancaked a guy on the LOS BEFORE he pulls and takes out 2 linebackers with one block...
Yeah, I saw Will Shields take 3 guys out of a play more than once... per season. I remember one game he was taking 2-3 guys out on every running play. It was against the Chargers and I think it was 2002. I just remember watching our offense and I could not stop watching 68. Priest had the good life that day.

On an aside, it's blatantly obvious Will Shields did not make it this year solely for the reason it was his first time on the ballot. He didn't even make it to the final 10.

Curtis Martin goes in while Chris Carter has to keep waiting?
Ridiculous imo. Martin was a good back for a long time, but he was never one of the elite. He got his yards 75 yards a game at 4.0 yards per carry. He was durable though.

On Roaf, eh, I would rather a true Chief like Shields make it, that would have been exciting, just cant get too excited over someone that retired a Saint.
My name is Maximus Decimus Warthog, member of HomeoftheChiefs.com, former season ticket holder of the lower level , loyal servant to the true coach, Martimus Schottenheimer. Father to disenfranchised sons, husband to a non football fanatic wife, and I will see my Chiefs in a Super Bowl, in this life or the next.

I knew Shields wasn't getting in because it was his first year - I'm still pissed though. Just a point of reference-
Will Shields (1993-2006): 12 Pro Bowls, 9 All-Pro teams, 2003 NFL Man of the Year, 223 consecutive starts (5-best streak all time)
Willie Roaf (1993-2005): 11 Pro Bowls, 9 All-Pro teams
Curtis Martin (1995-2005): 5 Pro Bowls, 5 All-Pro teams, 4th in NFL rushing yards (14,101), 3rd in NFL carries (3,518), Career average 4.0 ypc (season range 3.3 - 4.6)
Cortez Kennedy (1990-2000): 8 Pro Bowls, 4 All-Pro teams
Chris Doleman (1985-1999): 8 Pro Bowls, 5 All-Pro teams, 4th in all-time sacks (150.5)

I'm totally against Martin going in over Carter. Carter was never the best WR in the NFL (playing with Jerry Rice does that) but he was often the 2nd and 3rd best WR in the game. He was elite. I'm totally against Martin going in over Shields.
Then again, I was against Monk and Martin is basically the Art Monk of running backs. Never spectacular, but consistent with a long career. He was never a top 5 RB in the NFL though, which kinda makes it hard for me to think he deserves to be in there. The only RB who should get in this fast is Tomlinson.

In NFL history?
How many guards were better than Will Shields during his career? None.
How many RB's were better than Martin during his career? I mean honestly I can probably think of 20 guys who played during his career who were better RB's, but many of them didn't have the kind of longevity that Martin did.
