Hue Jackass wants to be involved in G.M. search

With a day to cool off, Raiders coach Hue Jackson was a lot more calm Monday than he was following Oakland’s season-ending loss.

His message, however, didn’t really change. Changes seem likely to happen to Oakland’s defensive staff. And Jackson wants a big say in the future of the franchise, including the hiring of the next general manager.

“I would hope that as the head coach of this football team I would hope that the organization understands that I have a pretty good idea of where we need to go. Because if not, then I shouldn’t be where I’m sitting,” Jackson said via the Oakland Tribune.

Pressed on the subject, Jackson made it clear he didn’t actually know if he would be in the hiring of the team’s next G.M.

“I don’t know that. I mean, [owner Mark Davis] will let me know that as we move forward,” Jackson said.

It’s a tricky situation. It’s my opinion that finding the right general manager is a far more important hire than finding the right head coach. The G.M. needs the flexibility to set the course for all aspects of the franchise.

Finding a personnel guy that meshes well with Jackson would be a nice bonus, but it shouldn’t be a prerequisite.

Wait, I thought that Hue Jackass owned the Raiders. Why should he ask to be involved. Wasn't he the one that pulled the trigger on the Carson Palmer trade?

This guy is gonna crash and burn. His level of arrogance exceeds the most accomplished of coaches. He makes Rex Ryan look humble... can you imagine the crap that this dickhead would spew if his team was actually good?

He wants to be involved to insure that he has a job once the new one is hired...since it's a good chance that a new GM would fire his dumbass for someone who could actually make the team competitive and take away the penalties.

I think he called it the greatest trade ever too.

Man, who wouldn't want to pick their own boss? That would be great.

Don’t be shocked if Hue Jackson doesn’t last in Oakland

There’s a strange dynamic unfolding right now in Oakland, which probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who has followed the NFL for the last decade.  And there’s a theory making the rounds in league circles that the arrival of Reggie McKenzie as the team’s next General Manager could lead to the departure of coach Hue Jackson.

Even though both men are represented by Kennard McGuire, there are indications that Jackson wasn’t fully on board with the decision to hire McKenzie.  Jackson, whom we believe reports directly to owner Mark Davis, has been publicly candid (perhaps too candid) in recent days regarding his desire for more control.  It’s our understanding that, behind the scenes, Jackson has been even more candid, and that the arrival of McKenzie could — not will but could — result in Jackson being one and done in Oakland.

Would it be shocking?  Yes.  But not much more shocking than last year’s decision to part ways with Tom Cable after a far less expected 8-8 season.

Every G.M. wants to hire his own coach.  Even if the G.M. says as he walks through the door that he’s fine with the head coach who is in place, every G.M. wants to hire his own coach.  With Jackson seeming in recent days like a bit of a loose cannon when it comes to the management of the team, McKenzie could have some real misgivings about moving forward with Jackson.

The fact that McGuire represents both men will influence the situation, but that will go only so far.  At some point, McKenzie will have to make what he believes to be the right decision/recommendation for the franchise, even if it means potentially alienating his own agent by firing one of his agent’s other clients.

At this point, we’re not reporting that Jackson is on his way out or predicting that he’s not long for the job.  What we do know is that folks inside the league are keeping an eye on Oakland, because there’s a sense that McKenzie and Jackson possibly won’t be able to coexist.

Reggie McKenzie will have the power to fire Hue Jackson

After the passing of Raiders owner Al Davis, coach Hue Jackson inherited significant power and influence over the football operation.  With the arrival of G.M. Reggie McKenzie, plenty of the juice will shift to McKenzie.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, McKenzie will have one additional piece of authority, via his contract with the team — the ability to fire Jackson.

Although McKenzie and Jackson are jointly represented by agent Kennard McGuire, there’s a sense in some circles that McKenzie will want to hire his own man.  Earlier today, Chris Mortensen of ESPN suggested that Packers assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Winston Moss could succeed Jackson, who has coached the Raiders for only one season.

It’s believed that Jackson has damaged his stock in Oakland via statements made in the wake of Sunday’s home loss to the Chargers, which caused the Raiders to miss the postseason for the ninth straight year.  To stay, Jackson will have to submit to the new structure and accept the fact that his influence as to football matters necessarily will diminish.

LOL, couldn't happen to a better jackass. What kind of ego must you have to believe the stuff that Hue Jackass believed, that he had a God, er, Al Davis lifetime appointment as the HC? Then he wanted to have the power over the new GM, even wanted to be able to pick him. That didnt work out for ya did Hue. Hue Jackass is a big phony.
