Mike Lombardi's take on the AFC cornerback Pro Bowl selections:

CORNERBACK

*Darrelle Revis, Jets; *Champ Bailey, Broncos; Johnathan Joseph, Texans

Three really good players, though I feel that the Browns' Joe Haden and the Chiefs' Brandon Flowers had better years than Bailey.

A long time since two Chiefs made the Pro Bowl or two Chiefs linebackers?

Lardarius Webb had a better season than Flowers, Bailey, and Haden.

Flowers allowed 8 Touchdown passes, which is 2nd most in the NFL.

As much as I like Flowers, I do not feel this was a great season for him. He was especially bad in the first 1/4 of the season when we started 0-4.

I just can't figure out his name.

I mean, Darius is a classic name and full of history.

When ever I see his name, all I can see is the first four letters. If he was my team-mate, I'd call him crisco. It's just like guys named Turdell.

Derrick Johnson will be on the scoring highlight reel for this Pro Bowl after he picks up a fumbled by Eric Weddle during an interception return and takes it to the house.

Admittedly, I haven't watched more than 10 plays of a pro bowl in like 4-5 years. However, today I watched the ESPN highlights and I noticed that NONE of the defensive/offensive linemen take more than 1 step - it's a full on skeleton drill. I know that the unwritten rule on field goals and extra points is to just watch the kicker, but now the linemen are doing it every play. Am I seeing that right? How long has this gone on? Let's just call the game off and have different skills competitions and shit. Only reason I watched the highlights is to make sure nobody got hurt.

That's the written rule. Defensive players can't blitz, deviate from the 4-3 defense, or rush a punt or field goal attempt, among other rule amendments for the Pro Bowl. Hard to believe no one gives a shit, right?

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

But it hasn't been like that for long right? They don't even do a good job of pretending to be pressuring the QB. Snap and stand. I guess in my mind I just remembered it being slightly more of real game than that.

Not that I care mind you, I am more worried about Chiefs getting hurt in the game than anything else. From what I saw there is no reason not to just make it two-hand touch (officially).

I don't remember it being as bad in the past on just going through the motions, and it really doesn't seem like that long ago that they actually tried. Last nights game was ridiculous. I loved when the crowd loudly boo'd them early in the game on a run play that looked more like a play that would happen on a play that was blown dead by a whistle. I think after that they really tried to at least make it look like they were trying.

Good to see DJ's TD, even though it was not a real game. One suggestion though. To make it a little more exciting, and because they don't try anyway, the should kick each extra point from the 40 yard line. Nobody else on the field except the holder and the kicker. At least then, we wouldn't have the site of all the guys standing around doing nothing.

Give them the bonus (I think it's 100K) and a trip to Hawaii.

Who cares about the game? Reward the players a bit. Besides, it's stupid as hell how guys like Matt Cassel get 'probowl' attached to a season simply because Tom Brady never goes to the thing. Plus now that SB participants don't go it's even MORE stupid.

If it was a paid vacation to Hawaii, a nice fat bonus, and no actual game to play... Brady would show up for once. Everyone would. Who the hell would pass on that?
