Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel was arrested around 10 p.m. Wednesday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Officers of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest near the Missouri Orthopedic Institute, a medical facility at which Missouri running back Henry Josey is being treated following Sunday surgery for a season-ending knee injury.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s 7 a.m. arrest report, Pinkel, 59, was released on a $500 bond. He was charged with a DWI/DUI first offense, according to the sheriff’s arrest report.
Officials at the Missouri athletic department have thus far made no comment but a statement is anticipated to be released later today.
The attorney who is representing Pinkel confirmed the incident took place but deferred any comment when contacted by telephone on Thursday morning.
In October of 1987, then Missouri head football coach Woody Widenhofer was arrested - and later convicted - of driving under the influence (DUI) following Mizzou's 34-10 homecoming game victory over Kansas State.
