The Raiders traded their 2012 7th round pick and a conditional pick in 2013 for Curry (either a 4th or 5th rounder), the 4th overall pick in 2009 Curry was beat out this year by Rookie KJ Wright.


I think we probably could have met those trade demands??

Why would we?

He hasn't exactly been a beast since he got into the NFL. He's been average, and that's probably giving him too much credit. It's hard to guess what he'll actually do in Oakland.

Besides, who's to say we even knew he was on the market?

The biggest reason is this:

The only position in our D that Curry would fit is the same position that DJ is playing.

I'm happy with how DJ's playing. He's finally realizing his potential.

You don't think he could be successful at Belcher's spot?

I'm asking this as a legitimate question. I haven't watched the guy play enough to have a fully formed opinion.

Sounds like he wasn't working that hard IMO. They pretty much gave him away. Still sucks he went to the Raiders, now I have to hate him!

Belcher is a true thumper, and that's what his position needs. A guy who is less worried about stats than he is about killing that FB that's attempting the lead block. Belcher is like a contact seeking missile. While finding a more talented LB would not be difficult, finding one who relishes in contact the same way is not. I always viewed Curry as a cover OLB like DJ (and DJ's current ILB spot is more like a 4-3 OLB than 4-3 MLB) and not a true MLB.

Fair enough. I did pull his numbers (I swear, PFF is like f**king crack), and he's been kind of piss poor in coverage, but actually not too shabby against the run. I wonder if he's just been miscast.

By the same token, those stats are subjective, and should always be taken with a grain of salt for players you (I) haven't personally watched closely. PFF thought Wade Smith was a top 20 OG back in 2008, but we all know what that actually looked like on the field.

Either way, I think the Raiders got a great deal here.

Curry wasn't drafted 4th overall for nothing, and he's only in his 3rd season. They didn't give up much. Low risk, high reward. They also have a great guy (BigSey) to show him what it takes to be a great NFL player Bigs lives and breathes the game, and he plays mean. He's helped a few reclamation projects in Oakland.

Also don't forget those stats were taken while he was in the NFC West. I'm sure playing the Rams, Cards, and niners twice a year can help boost your stats.

Looks like Curry is going straight to the starter role.
