APThe Panthers entered free agency knowing they needed to grab a veteran to man the fort at defensive tackle. They chose Ron Edwards, coming off a solid season with the Chiefs.
Just one week after coming to terms with Edwards, the Panthers will lose him to a torn triceps muscle, according to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. That injury usually knocks a player out for the year.
The Panthers don’t have many options to replace Edwards on the roster. Sione Fua, the team’s third round pick out of Stanford, has to be next up. Little-used third-year player Corvey Irvin has been running with the starters while learning coach Ron Rivera’s defense.
At least the Panthers have some time to come up with a solution. We’d be surprised if another veteran isn’t added to the mix.
Edwards’ injury wasn’t the only setback for Carolina on Friday. Sixth-round pick offensive lineman Zack Williams (pictured above) tore his ACL.
