If he has his way, he's about to be famous for something else entirely.
In a news conference on Sunday, Marshall told reporters that he suffers from borderline personality disorder, or BPD, a mental illness marked by intense anger, impulsivity, and turbulent interpersonal relationships.
The 27-year-old wide receiver -- who received his diagnosis this spring, after seeking treatment at McLean Hospital, in Belmont, Massachusetts -- told reporters he wants to be the "face" of BPD.
"My purpose moving forward is to raise awareness of this disorder -- how it not only affects the patient but the families and the people in the community," he said.

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

When he says that this is leaving him very vulnerable it's true. It's so hard to admit that you have no control of when you will be manic or depressed. Its kinda scary.

I hope he raises the right attention to help others and himself. Putting this on his shoulders could make it worse, but I hope not.

It's not the same. Borderline personality disorder is about people with serious, and I mean violently serious abandonment issues.
I recently discovered that I have a personality disorder.
Actually I do have a personality disorder, but I'd rather make a joke about it than tell anyone on a message board forum how crazy I am.

As for the other part, I don't think you're alone. I'm being treated for depression and anxiety, and since I've started, I've been amazed at the number of people I know in similar situations... people don't talk about it a lot, but I'm finding there's certainly no shame in it, either.
