According to Chris Biderman, free agent nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin has agreed to return to the 49ers. Franklin came into the Bay Area to meet with the team on Monday after testing the free agency market this off-season. Terms of the contract are not known at this point.
I spoke with Biderman and he told me that a source within the organization said that Franklin met with the 49ers on Monday morning and the sides agreed on a contract. If the source is accurate, this will be a huge move for the team.
By re-signing Franklin, the 49ers are bringing back one of their key defensive starters from last season. This will be Franklin's fifth season with the team.
Franklin was given the franchise tag for the 2010 season for $7 million. The nose tackle held out for a portion of the 2010 preseason in hopes of receiving a contract extension.

The 49ers prepared for Franklin's departure by signing defensive end Ray McDonald to a five-year deal. With McDonald signed, the 49ers planned to have Isaac Sopoaga replace Franklin at nose tackle. Now with Franklin back, McDonald's role is now up in the air.
Still without making any major splashes in the free agency market, the 49ers are building their roster together. Bringing back a familiar face like Franklin might have been general manager Trent Baalke's patience plan all along.
I'm still looking into this and trying to confirm the source's information, so take this for what it is. Awaiting official confirmation.
