Quote

Future Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss has decided to retire rather than continue playing.

"After weighing his options and contemplating offers, he's decided to retire," Moss' agent, Joel Segal, said Monday.
Moss, 34, played 13 seasons, catching 954 passes for 14,858 yards with 153 touchdowns.
Moss split 2010 with the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans after three full seasons in New England.
He was instrumental to the Patriots' 2007 record-breaking season in which they won 16 straight games before losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl.
Moss, drafted 21st overall by Minnesota in 1998, spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Vikings before playing for the Oakland Raiders in 2005 and '06.

Everyone is saying he is a first ballet HOFer. But I don't think he should be. Stat wise he is Solid! But no Championship and he pretty much quit at some point for every team he played for! I agree he should be in the HOF just not on the first ballet. Thoughts???

Who cares?

He's a HOF WR without question.

People make way too much about 1st ballot. You're either a HOFer or you're not and that's all that really matters.

While I was amused, I've never been terribly impressed by Moss.

I feel the same way about Michael Vick.

Meh.

Moss is most graceful wide receiver I've ever seen. He made it look effortless while making some incredible plays. Everything else aside, the man was gifted like pretty much none other.

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

I'd doubt he should, but Jonas is right, it doesn't really matter.

Randy Moss is the best overall athlete to ever play the position imo.

It's almost tragic he won't be remembered as the best ever, but that's his own fault.

I agree! He should have dominated the position! Sad that it had to end this way too. I think he could still play, but no one wants to deal with him anymore.

And your right it doesn't really matter when he goes to HOF. But he does deserves to.

That's the thing. Can he play? Yeah.

Moss spent his whole career basically getting by on his freakish and completely unmatched athletic prowess and size. His athletic prowess is gone. He can't outrun and outjump every CB on the field anymore. Unlike other elite WR's he's never had an extremely polished skill-set.

What happens when a guy like that loses his athletic ability? What does he have to fall back on?

Without the speed and mad hops, he's just a tall WR. Had he polished his skillset he could play until he was 40.

if he had the work ethic to have a polished skillset, we wouldn't be debating if he should be a 1st ballot HoF

Well, I still wouldn't care. :jester: 1st ballot... 2nd ballot... you don't get a special display or a bust made out of gold instead of bronze. It just doesn't matter at all.
