Bears bringing in Amobi Okoye

Dumped earlier in the day by the Houston Texans, defensive tackle Amobi Okoye already has a new home.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that Okoye, the 10th overall pick in the 2007 draft, has agreed to terms with the Bears. It’s a one-year deal.

Okoye is the second former top-ten defensive lineman signed by the Bears in two days. They’ve previously acquired Vernon Gholston, the sixth overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Moreover, Okoye’s arrival gives the Bears a trifecta of former top-ten picks, given the signing of receiver Roy Williams.

Because Okoye has four years of service, he wasn’t required to pass through waivers. And he presumably appeared on Saturday’s official Personnel Notice. Otherwise, the Bears would have been in violation of the premature contact rule for the second time since Thursday.

UPDATE: The Bears have announced the move, explaining that Okoye “agreed to terms.” Which likely means he hasn’t signed his contract yet.

So are the bears just bringing in all the underachievers they can find?
