For years Royals fans have been getting smoke blown up their ass about the future being in the minor leagues prospects in their system. For once, it really looks like there might be some fire to it.

This story actually came out a week ago, but I just now had time to post it really:

KC Places 6 Prospects in MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects

I'd post the article, but it's pretty long. Here's the breakdown though:

6. Mike Moustakas, 3B (#1 at his position)
7. Eric Hosmer, 1B (#1 at his position)
14. Mike Montgomery, LHP (#2 at his position)
16. Wil Meyers, Catcher (#2 at his position, though he's likely to move to the outfield)
34. John Lamb, LHP
36. Jake Odorizzi, RHP

That doesn't include a number of other Royals prospects getting love elsewhere.

Johnny Giavotella, 2B
Christian Colon, SS
Daniel Duffy, LHP
Christopher Dwyer, LHP
Aaron Crow, RHP
Tim Melville, RHP
Noel Arguelles, LHP

A couple of these guys, namely Crow and Melville, were a little disappointing last year, but they both have great upside.

Now, the Royals don't realistically have that much young talent already in the majors outside of Billy Butler and Mike Aviles (Alex Gordon?), and who knows if Aviles will still be around by then. However, the feeling is pretty universal that KC has the best and/or deepest farm system out there.

I'm going to have a hard time watching us lose a bagillion games this year, and probably even next year, but the future is looking pretty bright.
