Last week my nephew's high school football team had a fundraiser Brat Fry outside a local grocery store. The school is a small private school and this is their first year of fielding a varsity team.

When Aaron came out of the store, after doing his weekly grocery shopping, he stopped by the fundraiser and bought a brat. He took time to shake hands and talk with each guy on the team. He said he had seen a story about the team on the local news a few nights earlier and wished them well this season. Then he dropped a hundred dollar bill in their tip jar on his way out.

A couple days later there was a delivery from the Packers of some equipment that had been used at training camp along with a sizable cash donation to kickoff the fund for the building of a stadium at the school. Aaron also has been in contact with the school regarding donating some autographed items for an upcoming auction.

Always nice to see that a great player is also a great guy in person.

Thanks to Greatness for the Great Sig!

Oh how I wish we had drafted this guy instead of Derek Johnson.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

That would be more applicable to a post in which I said the same about Brees.

I never thought that Brees would amount to anything as an NFL QB.

I don't remember how I thought we should address the QB position at that time, but I do remember that I didn't want to trade for Trent Green, nor did I want to draft Brees.

And as much as I respect what Trent Green did here, I still believe it was a the wrong move, overall.

I never had any confidence in Green in the clutch.

But for Rogers, I was disappointed that we passed on him in that draft, even though I also thought that DJ would be a star at LB.

I thought the world of Brees at Purdue and in San Diego. I even celebrated on the huddle when the chargers let him go because "I didn't have to be a closet Brees fan anymore".

Rogers... I dunno. I honestly didn't think much of him or Smith. I do think people are jumping the gun with Rogers by placing him with Brady, Manning, and Brees though. He's played 2 season, won 0 playoff games, and has one of the best WR's in the game (Jennings). He's a damn good QB and I'd love to have him here, but I really think people are placing him among the 'Super elite' prematurely. Hell, QB's who take their team to championship games and LOSE are basically disqualified from the discussion, but for some reason Rogers is not... imo, it's because the media has already handed Green Bay the Lombadi for this season.

You're right about Green, but it wasn't Green in the clutch that scared me. In those situations you're throwing to the side-line and our outside WR's were shit. IF you want to be capable of a comeback, you either need a super elite QB, excellent wide-outs, or both. Our offense was NOT built to work as a 1 dimensional pass offense, and it rarely did.

I think Rogers is on the fast track track to elite status, and the fact is, regardless, he has put up numbers the last two seasons that put him up there, as has Phillip Rivers.

And I disagree with the concept that a QB is not elite because of losing SBs.

I still consider Marino, Fouts, Tarkenton and Kelly as elite QBs of their eras.

On the flipside, I think Joe Namath is just about the most overrated QB ever.

Rodgers is the only QB in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons as a starter. That's pretty impressive, at least to me.

Very few QB's have won a championship within the first two or three years. So he lost his first playoff game. At least it was in overtime and not a blow out, and it's probably hard to throw well anyway with an opposing player's hand in your facemask.

Thanks to Greatness for the Great Sig!

I agree with you man. I'm speaking more of the sports media.

I just think it takes more than 2 seasons of really high stats (when half of the QB's in the NFL put up 4000 yards) to put guys up at the very very top, where he is being placed right now. Rivers hasn't been in that discussion because he 'can't get it done in the playoffs', yet Rogers has been in that discussion because he's been really good in preseason. Seems kinda weird to me.

The media is handing the packers the lombardi trophy and buffering Rogers' HOF bust and I'm just saying that might be a bit premature. I've seen some guys placing him ahead of Brady. C'mon. Is he a top 10 QB? No argument from me, and he's climbing fast.

If some people see that as slandering the kid, they're just being overly defensive. He's been great, but he has a long career to prove himself a great player.

If it's premature, it's premature. It looks painfully obvious that the guy is a star QB and well on his way to being one of the best QBs in the league, at least in the tier with Brady, Manning, and Brees. Rivers is right there too though, no question.

it's not just Jennings, their WR corp- 5 deep- is right up there with anyone's and the young TE (Finley) is a beast! I remember drafting Finley in fantasy last year and people (including iirc our resident 'draft expert; ) were like 'who'? This year he was the 2nd TE taken in most drafts.

I like Rodgers myself but I'm not ready to put him in the elite group just yet unless we're strictly talking fantasy QBs. A lot more to being an 'elite' QB than putting up the stats. I'd bet money that he's going to do his share of winning tho.

he threw an INT last week that was very Favre like tho lol
