Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.

Damn you guys for not getting a joke.

He was occassionally ised to give the starter's a rest, because our depth sucks (starters are another discussion).
But his best use is as a situational pass rusher.

A guy who is used to give the starters a rest is called a sub.

Our run D sucked ass all season, but never more than when Giberry had to fill in for Dorsey against Cleveland.
He just doesn't have the size and strength for the poistion.

I, sadly, still have the Cleveland game on tape. Cleveland's scrub was tearing up center to right, not center to left. He didn't engage Gilberry much at all.

get why you would suggest Gilberry at DE, but it doesn't work and that was something I did discuss in my original post..

I will give you that, but you have yet to propose a decent alternative to Ron Edwards (if Gilberry is too small for DE, Derek Lokey, who might be 295 at best, is definitely too small for NT). Smith, in my eyes, is the only alternative. Because of his size, he can fall forward at the snap and at least sorta plug up the hole.

Shaun Smith is working at DE in camp, and not listed at NT in the depth chart all at this point in time.

What depth chart? The team hasn't posted one. On the roster he's listed as a DT. The only player listed as both DT and DE is Gales.

Gilberry is a hard worker and a solid pass rusher in the right situations, but he should be used sparingly, at best, in any situation that isn't a passing down.

So much for letting the young guys try to prove themselves.

Well......duh.
I said his best use is as a situational pass rusher.

Yeah, sure.
It is only a mere coincidence that our run defense was far worse on that day that it had already been.
I sadly saw the gifs prepared by GoChiefs, who can be a little pissant, but has real talent for working film, and Gilberry was getting owned.

Smith has been as effective in the 34 for Cleveland over the past couple of years as Ron Edwards has been thus far for the Chiefs.
I wouldn't have a problem with idea, even then, though.
However camp reports have had Smith at DE.

Lokey isn't the ideal size for the position, but the size difference bewteen he and Edwards isn't as pronounced as the size dfference between Gilberry and the ostensible starters at DE.

The depth chart that has been posted is at Arrowheadpride I guess, though apparently Todd Haley essentially told them that the depth chart is pretty fluid right now.
But, as I said, anytime I've seen Smith mentioned in the camp reports, he's been lined up at DE.

There's a difference between letting a guys like Lokey and Belcher proving themselves in positions that they are more physically suited for than Gilberry.
Personally, Gilberry's size is better suited to OLB in this scheme, and I find it somewhat surprising they didn't move him there.
Hell, I think he's better suited for the position than Hali.

Make note of this from yesterday's camp report Nathan.

Posted in the training camp thread.

Horne of Massachusetts and nose tackle Garrett Brown of Maine are standing out among the undrafted rookies in the Chiefs' camp. Horne has continually been open on pass routes and has made some nifty receptions. Horne, who played three seasons at Massachusetts after transferring from Syracuse, is listed with the fourth team, so he has some work to do. Brown is running behind veterans Ron Edwards and Derek Lokey.

No mention of Smith.
