Former Kansas State coach Bill Snyder will return to coach the program and will be introduced at a news conference on Monday, ESPN.com's Joe Schad has learned.
A person briefed on the situation said Sunday that Snyder will return to the Wildcats after three years away. Snyder, who is 69 years old, compiled a 136-68-1 record at Kansas State from 1989-2005.
A source indicated to The Wichita (Kan.) Eagle that Snyder would be given a five-year contract worth $1.8 million per season.
He will return to coach in a stadium named for him and his family (Bill Snyder Family Stadium). He replaces Ron Prince, who finished with a 5-7 record this season and 17-20 overall in three seasons at with the Wildcats.
Joe Schad covers college football for ESPN.

I'm not too surprised to see Snyder be the head coach again at K-State. I am surprised to see him get a 5 year contract. Is that just options the last couple years or what? I figured he'd just be coach for a year or two.
I also wonder how far the game has passed him by. Is he gonna be ready for this wide-open Big XII? Could be. I liked Ron Prince honestly, but Snyder probably does give them a better chance to win, so long as someone else handles recruiting.

I was hoping they would hire Gary Patterson.

I have no dog in this fight, but Patterson seemed like a perfect fit. Why not go with the 48 year old rising coaching star that is a former player instead of a 69 year old former coach?
Just seems like it would be best for the program to go forward instead of back.

This hiring is really interesting. This whole thing will really depend on who Bill hires as his assistants.
