The Boston Red Sox

ESPN's Pedro Gomez reported Sunday that Red Sox management had delivered a letter of suspension to outfielder Manny Ramirez late on July 25, shortly after Ramirez sat out his second straight game.Gomez said his story was based on "multiple sources," but he did not identify any of them. According to him, the letter informed the slugger that the suspension was to go into effect the next day because Ramirez was unwilling to play. Ramirez cited a knee injury as his reason for missing the two games, but MRIs on both of his knees failed to find any damage.
According to Gomez, Ramirez called the team several hours later and said he would play the next day. Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers a week later.
Ramirez did not comment on the story; neither did Red Sox management. Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, said, "The bottom line is he was never suspended and there was never cause for suspension."
Ramirez was in the final year of an eight-year, $160 million contract, and he wanted to become a free agent in the offseason. The Dodgers, Angels and Yankees are amoung the teams interested in him.

Red Sox send Crisp to Kansas City for Ramirez
Associated Press
BOSTON -- Outfielder Coco Crisp was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday for reliever Ramon Ramirez. Royals general manager Dayton Moore called the switch-hitting Crisp a "championship-caliber player" who will help Kansas City move forward. Crisp is a career .280 batter in seven seasons with the Cleveland and the Red Sox. The 29-year-old started 98 games for the Red Sox last season while sharing the center field job with rookie Jacoby Ellsbury. He stole 20 bases in 27 attempts, marking the third season in a row he's reached the 20-steal mark. The trade frees up some money for Boston. Crisp is owed $5.75 million next season, with an $8 million club option for 2010 or a $500,000 buyout. Ramirez is a 27-year-old right-hander who had a 2.64 ERA in 71 2/3 innings last season.

I think it's a good trade for both teams, with the Sox coming out slightly ahead. Anytime you can grab an effective bullpen arm in this climate you jump at it.

Bay 64 AB's, 5 HR, 19 RBI, .703 SLG%
Lowell 77 AB's, 4 HR, 22 RBI, .584 SLG%
We need a lineup change Tito! Sure things are going good now, but it won't continue forever with our 3 hitter producing those numbers. I love Papi, but if you don't produce the lineup has to change. And it is not like this is a just this year thing, Papi has not been the same for a while now.
