Alright, we can't trade down, it's our pick at #5, what position do we fill right away, what is our greatest need. Not considering individuals, just positions. One choice for offense, one choice on defense.

I went with C and NT.

Both of our currents are utterly useless, and we need them to build the rest of the lines on. JMO.

I voted RT & NT. We do need a true Center and Rudy needs to move back to RG. We need everything across the line, this last year we were toilet paper thin at depth across the line.

I voted LT and middle linebacker. We need to get a true left tackle and move Albert over to the right where I think he will excel. And we are in dire need of a good middle linebacker to lead the defense.

I went with LT and NT.

Offense wise I don't like any other position that high. Same with the D. Although there isn't a true NT that will go that high. I still think if there was I would go there. Prolly NT over LT if it came to that.

Noticed that there was a vote for a right tackle. Whoever did that, are you certain that Albert will succeed at left tackle? I think Albert will be a very good tackle, but not at left tackle. Move him to right tackle or guard and I think he will flourish. But, we can only move him if we can get a top notch left tackle either through draft or free agency. If we can get that great left tackle and move Albert over, we could have the beginning of a very good line.

You need a physically dominating road grader at RT.
Albert is not that, especially since he lost the weight.

He improved significantly over the last qurter of the season as he got more comfortable with technique and scheme, and he'll build on that.

Giving up on him now at LT would be ****** moronic, but not surprising.

Besides that, he is making LT money, and it was just his SECOND season. It would be highly unlikely, KC moves him to RT, unless he wants to take a cut in pay.
As for positions of need....Center and MLB(Reynaldo McClain anyone..talk about a play maker.)

As a general rule, I'm not in favor of taking ILB with a top 5 pick, but I could live with Rolando McClain if it came to that.

Center and SS. I'm going to temper that a bit in saying if Berry isn't available #5, I could go with a tackle there. I think we have a good chance to get a true center in the 2nd. I think Albert is good enough (given he's allowed to put on a little more beef) to remain a tackle.
Does anyone know when the season is declared "un-capped"? The availability of FAs will have to impact our plans.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. And I'm sure some of you will tell me I am. But I'm not. Peace out, y'all!!

Since we have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds, maybe we should consider our top 3 needs.

I have always preferred to build from the front to back, so I went with LT on offense. It's not because I don't think Albert can succeed at LT, only because I think a true LT can improve 2 spots on the line at the same time. Who cares if he's being paid LT money, a top flight RG doesn't go cheap either. For that matter though, has anyone else noticed that the best RTs are guys that can play LT? I'd say you draft a guy that can play both and put him at RT. Even if he doesn't pan out as a starter, getting a swing tackle that can backup either spot would be pretty valuable in and of itself.

On defense, I went ILB. We could honestly use two starting ILBs. I'd settle for one. Most notable of course would be Rolando McClain. Sean Weatherspoon would be a great pick early in the 2nd round if he slips to us also. I really think both are the complete package. I seriously would not be opposed to us taking both. After all, 3-4 defenses are supposed to be centered around the LBs.

I think though if Eric Berry is available at our pick, we should take him. He actually had a down year statistically, but I wouldn't let that scare me. He's a very consistent tackler, great in coverage, inconsistent hands (looked consistent first two years of his career though).

The point on defense though is we need playmakers. Berry, McClain, Spoon... they fit that bill. On offense we definitely got a playmaker in Jamaal Charles. Hali played awesome as a rush linebacker this year, but I don't know if you call him a cornerstone to build around. Flowers, maybe, but I'd like to see a playmaker in the front seven to really open things up on defense.

Back to back season featuring Pat Thomas and Corey Mays sure make it more appealing no?

Fine, but you can't under any circumstances draft a C in the top 5.

Rudy's not the weakest link anyway.

Why would he take a cut in pay? Do you think Carolina asked Jordan Gross to take a cut in pay the two years he started at RT?

If were going to look at our top 3 needs I think we could look at any position on the offensive line, also a nose tackle, and either ILB of a safety. It looks like this will be a deep oline and safety class so we may be able to find those guys after the first round.

It's a toss up between him, Ofailaghan, and Goff.

All 3 were so bad they don't even deserve back-up jobs.

No, it was Goff, hands down. Dude was such a solid player before he got here too. :pity:

Our biggest priority, however, is RT. We have a couple of potential solutions at RG, but none on the outside.

No, it's Rudy.

Goff went on IR when again? Early in the year, so his play wasn't really the contributing factor. Rudy...man, that guy...
