It would undermine the true greatness of Priest's accomplishment if we allow Johnson to break his record.

In fairness, it wasn't that great of an accomplishment. We're one of the few teams that doesn't have an 8000+ yard rusher. Priest had that capacity, however. I had another paragraph written for this article (I took it out because it ultimately didn't fit what I was going for) that looked at his credentials in terms of Hall of Fame consideration. His numbers compare most favorably to Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk. Give Priest another 20 games healthy and his numbers would be strong enough to get some votes.

But as you noted in your article, Priest spent a lot of time with some pretty serious injuries. If he'd been healthy the whole time...
And, in 2003, when he broke the rushing TD title... that was pretty amazing, especially given that as you say, he wasn't the most talented physically.
Priest is another one of those players who earn their way into the NFL based on hard work, determination, passion for the game, and game smarts. I think that's one reason I always liked him so much.

Yup. I think everything about the guy was special EXCEPT that record. I'd be willing to bet it's one of his stats that he's least proud of. It doesn't matter though. It's important that Larry doesn't take it from him.

I got a call from a close friend of mine today, his name is Freddie. He asked that I mention something about Larry Johnson NOT breaking Priest Holmes record in my next blog. It's like all of the sudden everyone is getting antzy in the pantzy of something that ANYONE could have figured BEFORE the season was going to happen.
Now here we are. With 100 more reasons to bitch. I am finally starting to understand many things. And one thing I understand more than anything is that Kansas City Chief fans are pissed. There is no doubt about that. This reaks of feeding them what they want. More pissyness.
But this is something all of us knew. We knew that EVEN if Larry Johnson had a HORRIBLE year, he would still stand a chance to beat Priest in yardage by the halfway ,mark. So here were are, and some are acting like it's the biggest crime in history, and that's it's a fresh new story. ( Although I'm sure you have been saving this one, I'm aware of how clever you really are.)
I want be CLEAR.
I don't want Larry Johnson taking this away from Priest. Not many Chief fans do right now. But can we please talk about f**king Lance Long, instead of Larry Johnson???????????
I am sorry Nathan. You know I love you, but you have chosen a path lately that I just can't follow. The path of doom and gloom. This article was a prime example. You just gave this board 100 more reasons to bitch. You fed them exactly what they wanted.
Job well done.

So, you don't want to go into how Lance will save the Chiefs organization and how he will be the next Rob Thomas?

Oh, just a undersized receiver who got his ass knocked out of the game, not to mention that he's taking away balls being thrown towards Bowe's way.
Just a sad stat that I noticed.
Bowe has 23 receptions in 7 games.
That's terrible. Inexcuseable.

You're an asshole.

Homer: [reading] "Project Arcturus couldn't have succeeded without you. This will get you a little closer to that dream of yours. It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start. Drop me a line if you're on the East Coast, Hank Scorpio." Aw, the Denver Broncos!
Marge: I think owning the Denver Broncos is pretty good.
Homer: Yeah, yeah.
Marge: Well, explain to me why it isn't.
Homer: [sighs] You just don't understand football, Marge.

When Lance does something we will be able to talk about him. Right now his biggest contribution is that he got lit up on a 5 yard route. Maybe this week we can talk about him a little more

Most of you are too young to remember this, but there was much the same "outrage" during the 1961 baseball season. Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle were locked in a duel to break Babe Ruth's home run record. Mantle, a life long Yankee, was the favorite and Maris was the villian. Maris was truly a great guy and never really cared about that record, but he just kept hitting homers. Long story short, Mantle came down with an infection in his leg and Maris hit number 61 on the last day of the season. It watered Ford Frick off so much that he had an asterisk placed after the 61 in the record book and it stood for many years. I'm guessing if it had been Mantle you wouldn't have seen that.
So, if the Chiefs ever let LJ on the field again and he does happen to break the record, so what? I'd hope we have a runner that will shatter that record and wipe the LJ stain away forever.
NK, another well written and thought provoking article. Well done.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong. And I'm sure some of you will tell me I am. But I'm not. Peace out, y'all!!

Look around the league. All receivers drop them as well. The fact that Bowe only got 23 receptions in seven games is terrible.
Hell, last year under Herm, who I really don't like, Bowe had 86.
The fact is, The is that Dwayne is on pace to have only 48 catches BECAUSE CASSEL DOESN'T LOOK DOWNFIELD.
No amount of "Lance Long" type of players will change that.

I think most of us agree with your sentiment, we just wish it was somebody else - somebody the fan base can be proud of, y'know?
