While I understand this train of thought,I know there are others like me who are able to see the fun and friends you also make playing in Fantasy leagues, just as I have done for over ten years, and feel that playing in such an arena seems to make for better all around NFL Fans.
If you are a Fantasy player:
1.How many leagues do you usually play in?
2.How many are you playing in this year?
3.How long have you been playing?
4.What team names do you go by?
5.Have you won any Division or League Championships?
6.Who are the best players you have had ?
7.What Chiefs players have you had on your roster?
8.What is your stating lineup this year-(if you only play in one league)
9.If you play in more than one league-what is your best starting lineup?
10.What is your record this season thus far?
11.Do you play in "keeper" leagues?
12.Do you play in pay or free leagues?
13.Do you attend in-person or online only drafts?
For the past ten-plus years prior to 2009,I played in a league that was a combined group of guys from two churches. Both commissioners (a father and son) have now both moved out of town,so that league folded this year.We paid about $25.00 a year, that went to pay for Pizza for our in-person drafts, and eventual award ceremonies and trophies.I have won a division champoinship,a division championship.I received recognition one year for most improved owner.I received recognition for Jason Elam's 1997 Top-Kicker performance.I received recognition for Randy Moss' Rookie Of The Year spot, when he and Daunte Culpepper played together on the Minnesota Vikings.I have been a runner-up for the league Championship one year.We called it the 'Fantasy Bowl'.
Since last year,I have also been playing in a Yahoo Sports Fantasy League-Champs Only, that a friend of mine runs.I am 2-0 in that this season, having won week 1-80-75,and week 2-96-74.I have a starting lineup that includes Drew Brees,Tom Brady,Terrell Owens,Hines Ward,Cedric Benson,Knowshon Moreno,Tony Gonzalez, and Steve Smith.(Not bad for having been 9th in the draft order.) Having started Tom Brady over Drew Brees in week 1,nearly cost me the victory.(Fortunately,'almost" only counts in horse-shoes and hand-grenades!) I do have Bobby Engram, but am yet to see any noteworthy points from him.I have the Indiannapolis and San Diego defenses. Our draft was online. It is a free league, and is not a keeper league, whereas my previous league had always been.I have in the past had Chiefs players like Greg Hill,Johnny Morton,Elvis Grbac (am writing from work, and would have to be home to see what other names among the Chiefs I have left out.)
My bench right now, also includes Jeremy Maclin,Michael Crabtree,Edgerrin James,Deshawn Wynn,Desmond Clark,Louis Murphy, and Brent Celek. The performance of these bench players will be evaluated over the next couple weeks,in light of potential free-agents I have in mind as replacements. My current team name is 'Fire CHIEF's Brigade.' In the past,I have gone by The Cavalry,(used that name during most of my years in the church league),Kansas City-911, Loshman's Linemen, and The War Wagon.
Would love to hear your Fantasy stories, and whether any of you and I have any of the same players on our rosters.Maybe we could have some mock-games pitting my roster against yours just for fun sometime.
Well,a lot of people are concerned about the Chiefs playing Philly in their town this Sunday.Personally,I am hoping that my Fantasy QB Drew Brees and the Saints having beat up on them last week,Donovan Mcnabb still being questionable, etc, will help take some of the 'wind' out of the Eagles' sails.Plus, though a win would be nice, and would be a start on the road to the 8-8 season I am predicting this year, keep in mind,no one expects 'miracles' out of this team right now.Seeing more positive progress like we did in so many areas in last Sunday's game would be a good start.Matt Cassel looked more comfortable,Larry Johnson was running well, the defense was solid in most of the Raiders' drives,Dewayne Bowe and Bobby Wade were looking sharp. Our main issue last Sunday was shooting ourselves in the foot with costly penalties that seemed to negate nearly every big-play that could have been the difference in the game.I will say that we had the first quarter 4th & 1 play near the end-zone that we chose to kick the field goal in,instead of trying for another First Down, and as we were listening in the car en-route home from church,(where I had been the only person in the 100+ that were in attendance even wearing Red,let alone Chiefs gear-and that seems to be a trend-sad-a friend of mine at church took a photo of me in my Chiefs polo shirt, suspenders with Chiefs buttons and pins and Chiefs necklace, that is now my profile picture on my main Facebook page),I told my daughter "mark my words, that play could be the deciding factor in this game!" Guess what? It was!!!
I know that Coach Hailey is also committed to doing whatever is necessary to make this team the best it can be-especially in creating competition at all positions,so no one becomes complacent and develops a feeling of personal entitlement, that may have been the staus quo in past GM/Coaching regimes. So truly,'the best....is yet to come!'
Hope your week is going well-it's Wednesday,so another 'Red Friday',and then game-day will be here before you know it.I will be monitoring the game from across the lot at Kauffman Stadium,as my Fantasy Commisssioner is treating me to the Royals game with tickets he recently won on AM-610 Sports (that he also got to be a guest Draft Commentator for, back on NFL Draft Day),but will be sure and stop by to see some of you,and do some tail-gating.
God Bless!!

The other 2 were ahead, and I needed HG's Brees to have a knockout game for him to win and he did just that. The last TD pass put HG over the top. Thanks guys.

I noticed this as well. You team is actually looking rather formidable now. Not sure I want to face them in round one. I may just have to ruin my perfect season to give fighting vipers the win in the hopes that he gets the 4 seed instead. That would be too cruel!

Well, as long as I can tie the Vipers, I have the points advantage.
Brook, I've noticed lately that you've been one step ahead of me on the waiver wire. You've made some killer pick ups lately that has strengthened your team, so you should not worry.

I really killed you with the Glen Coffee pickup midseason when Gore went down. If not for that I think you'd be in the top 2 or 3 with a spot probably locked up by now.

Pretty much. With so many people in it it's hard to get anything worthwhile. I did have an amazing draft and luck with injuries though. Who knew Big Ben and Ricky Williams would be near the tops at their position. Akers and Green Bay were also huge sleepers for me. Just the perfect storm I guess.

Guess it will be you and I after all Brooklyn, in the first round. I only wish that I was playing you this week instead.

I knew this was going to happen. I told you a couple of weeks ago I felt you were making the playoffs. Also, well played on Cribbs. I was looking at him yesterday and trying to see where I could find a spot for him on my roster. In the end I couldn't risk dropping 1 of my 3 ATL running backs. I wish they would just announce if Turner is done for the year or not. Since this is the first time you beat me on the waiver wire, perhaps you will also take me down in the first round as well. Not feeling too confident about my chances. All my guys are slumping lately - Ben, Wayne, SJAX, and I guess you could say Turner too.

well, I'll be damned. Did not expect Wayne to catch a 65 yard TD with only minutes to go. He hasn't had more than 4 catches with no TDs for the last 3 weeks. 21 is still a sick number for your TE to put up, but I guess I was a little premature in rolling over. You still scare me though

The Packers defense really can't lose that much more points, but if Ben keeps throwing the TDs, you are going to breeze by me. I need a bunch of Rivers to Jacksons.
