While doing extensive research for my All Time Chiefs of the 1980's team and came across the Chiefs draft from 1984. I was pretty impressed, especially during a decade of utter failure:
Rd Sel # Player Position School
1 5 Bill Maas NT Pittsburgh
1 21 John Alt T Iowa
2 34 Scott Radecic LB Penn State
3 61 Herman Heard RB Southern Colorado
4 90 Mark Robinson DB Penn State
5 117 Eric Holle DE Texas
5 134 Jeff Paine LB Texas A&M
6 146 Rufus Stevens -- Grambling State
7 173 Kevin Ross DB Temple
8 202 Randy Clark DB Florida
9 229 Scott Auer T Michigan State
9 240 Dave Hestera -- Colorado
10 258 Al Wenglikowski LB Pittsburgh
11 285 Bobby Johnson -- San Jose State
12 314 Mark Lang -- Texas
Not too bad. Two Chiefs Hall of Famers, one that could be, and Herman Heard was a serviceable running back.

My name is Maximus Decimus Warthog, member of HomeoftheChiefs.com, former season ticket holder of the lower level , loyal servant to the true coach, Martimus Schottenheimer. Father to disenfranchised sons, husband to a non football fanatic wife, and I will see my Chiefs in a Super Bowl, in this life or the next.

Jack Steadman actually did a pretty good job in the draft through the years, but after firing Hank Stram, he never found a HC that could utilize and maximize that talent, though I think Marv Levy got a raw deal.
The core of the teams that were annual pretenders under Marty included a number of Steadman draft picks.
