I'd say the odds are that MU will be Big 12 North Champs after next Saturdays games.

Lucky bastard. I haven't went to a Mizzou game in person for about a decade, but the last few years I've watched or listened almost religiously. I need to just pick a game next year when the schedule comes out and have at it. Ought to be awesome games. Just gotta wonder who we'd face from the South.
I expected Kansas to be worse than last year, both in record and in actuality, but I never would have thought that they'd just barely make bowl eligibility. I do imagine Mizzou will trounce Kansas whenever that game comes up, and even if they are nothing compared to last year, it'll still feel good. I'm not sure that rivalry ever will have a greater moment than Reesing popping up from the ground with a facemask full of grass and eyes filled with disappointment though.

It's a championship, so enjoy it Mizzou
By BLAIR KERKHOFF
The Kansas City Star AMES, Iowa | The question came from a Missouri fan last week:
?Should I buy a ticket to the Big 12 championship game??
He wasn?t talking about waiting until the participation became official, which happened Saturday when the Tigers thumped Iowa State 52-20 a few hours after Kansas lost at home to Texas.
He meant, what?s the use? Why invest in a butt-kicking by some South Division bully?
The soul of the Missouri fan is a fascinating place. A protective layer has developed after years of crushed expectations and heartbreak, making joy difficult to accept.
Some checked out emotionally after the Oklahoma State loss and Texas debacle, refusing to invest more hope in a team that was supposed to compete for a national championship.
But where this honest approach may come in handy when dealing with disappointment, it?s a disservice at a time of genuine accomplishment.
Like Saturday.
For the second time in as many seasons, the Tigers are champions of the Big 12 North Division, and although it happened in a weaker division than 2007 and before a fraction of the audience that witnessed last year?s wild scene with Kansas at Arrowhead, the achievement cannot be underestimated.
?You never take it for granted, never say, ?Here we are again, let?s move on,? ? Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said. ?You have to enjoy it because it?s hard to do it, very hard to do it.?
Yet the Tigers made it look easy, at least against North foes. The average victory margin against fellow cold-weather schools is 51-15 with Kansas to go. That?s 10 straight against the North, by the way.
It means Missouri will get a trophy, print commemorative T-shirts, hang a banner in the Devine Pavilion, sew a patch into the locker room carpet, just like last year.
Fans should get on board, or back on board, and ride this thing, because you never know when the next one comes around, and they should move ahead knowing a national championship and a Heisman Trophy for Chase Daniel won?t be part of the deal.
Daniel would have to string together about eight more quarters like the first one Saturday ? when he completed all 16 passes and went touchdown, touchdown on the first two drives ? to return to the Heisman hunt. Not going to happen.
But Chase and the guys have plenty to chase in the three remaining games.
First up, Kansas in two weeks. A double-digit victory season is before them, which would bring to one the number of times the Tigers have won at least 10 in consecutive seasons.
And the back-to-back first-place finishes? First time since the fighting Faurots of 1941 and 1942.
The Tigers hang out in Kansas City for another week for the conference championship game. That opponent will be Texas Tech if the Red Raiders win at Oklahoma next weekend. A Sooners victory would carry the mystery to the next weekend.
Whoever the opponent, Missouri will go in as the underdog against a team that might be ranked first or second nationally. It will be mindful of 2003, when top-ranked Oklahoma lined up against three-loss Kansas State at Arrowhead and lost by four touchdowns.
Missouri won?t be playing for a national championship, but a victory will send the Tigers to the Fiesta Bowl, their first Bowl Championship Series game.
None of that had a chance unless the North was captured.
?The very first day of practice, Coach (Pinkel) said for us not to look past anything and concentrate on winning the North,? said freshman tight end Andrew Jones, who filled in admirably for the ailing Chase Coffman. ?That was our only goal.?
After the final seconds ticked off, players hustled to the corner of Missouri fans, who supplied a rousing ovation. The celebration carried into the locker room because Pinkel wanted his guys to know they had done something special, even though it?s not a national title run.
?If every team in the country put all their eggs in that basket to be the national champs, there?s going to be a lot of disappointed people,? Pinkel said.
Nobody at Missouri should feel that way.

I remember after beating Illinois at the beginning of the year, the Mizzou players were hanging their heads as if in defeat. Pinkel said that disturbed him, that any time you beat a top 20 team you should be living it up. I agree with that. I guess the high expectations got to them.
They need to just be happy that they are the North Champions and have an opportunity to be the Big XII Champions outright. Hell, they still have a good shot at making a BCS game if they just win these next two games. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Also, seeing how much better they're doing in recruiting than they were pre-Pinkel, I can't help but think this won't be their only shot at a national title.

Missouri, Pinkel agree on new contract
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Missouri and Gary Pinkel have agreed to terms on a seven-year contract that guarantees the Tigers' football coach $2.3 million per season through 2015. Athletic director Mike Alden said Tuesday the new deal begins on Jan. 1. Pinkel's previous contract would have expired on Dec. 31, 2012.
The new contract is an increase of $450,000 from the deal the 56-year-old Pinkel signed last December. Pinkel has led the 12th-ranked Tigers to a 21-4 record the last two seasons, winning the Big 12 North each year.
Missouri is 9-2 heading into the regular season finale against Kansas on Saturday at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium.

No Place Like Home for these KC Tigers
By MIKE DeARMOND
The Kansas City Star
On Saturday morning when they trot out on the field at Arrowhead Stadium, Tommy Saunders and Brock Christopher expect to see nearly every resident of Kearney in the stands.Same for Chase Coffman and the good folks who call Peculiar home.
Jeff Wolfert expects fans of diving and Missouri fans who live in Overland Park to be rooting him on as No. 12 Mizzou takes on Kansas in the Border War, Kansas City style.
There really should be no place like home in the penultimate appearance for these four Kansas City-area seniors who have played starring roles in their college football careers at Mizzou.
“To go out there and end it like that,” said Saunders, his voice floating off into dream-come-true land. “You’re playing in Kansas City where you grew up. At Arrowhead Stadium. Going to Chiefs games.
“All of Kearney is going to be there.”
With a home-grown interest in every play.
When Saunders, a starting wide receiver, isn’t on the field with the Missouri offense, Christopher, a starting linebacker, will be out there with the Tigers’ defense.
“We talked about it last year,” Saunders said of MU’s 36-28 victory at Arrowhead over Kansas, “how it was the greatest game we’ve ever played in. Just the whole atmosphere.”
Coffman, who has caught more passes than any other tight end in major-college football history, anticipates Peculiar will simply move itself, temporarily, up Missouri 71 to Arrowhead. Cheering not only for Coffman, but for sophomore tailback Derrick Washington out of Raymore-Peculiar as well.
“A lot of our family and friends are going to be at the game,” Coffman acknowledged. “Old coaches, teachers, anybody who knows us.
“We know we’re at home, playing in front of our fans. It’s there.”
Wolfert finds himself a stranger among friends, given that he graduated from Blue Valley West on the Kansas side of the Border War region.
“I made the wise choice of coming here,” Wolfert said. “I’m a Missouri Tiger now, no regrets. We’re all Missouri Tigers.”
There are other Kansans and Kansas City-area Tigers. But Coffman, Wolfert, Saunders and Christopher have become a Mount Rushmore of Missouri football.
The Washington (no, not Derrick), Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln of the recent Tiger success.
Missouri has already clinched its second straight Big 12 North title and on Dec. 6 will play in its second straight Big 12 championship game.
So who, in a Mount Rushmore scenario, would be up there in the place of George Washington?
“Have to be Chase Coffman,” Wolfert said.
Thomas Jefferson’s stand-in?
Let’s make that Wolfert. Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Wolfert has been the supreme author of the Missouri Declaration of Kickers. He’s already the school’s all-time scoring leader. Along with Coffman, perhaps the pre-eminent Tiger ever to play his position.
Christopher? He’s honest Abe. Facial hair sometimes fits. Man of few, but memorable, words.
“Looking back on it will definitely be something to cherish,” Christopher said of his hard-hitting Missouri career and playing just that way in front of the home folk. “But looking forward, which we have to do, we can’t worry about that right now.”
Typical linebacker. Only sees what is directly in front of him, something in crimson and blue. Intent on hitting it, hurting it, putting it on the ground.
Saunders becomes Teddy Roosevelt then. Teddy with the wild moustache, Tommy with the wild hair. Charge!
Coffman has not played since Nov. 14 when he hyperextended his left big toe pushing off to block in Missouri’s victory at Baylor.
Will he play Saturday at Arrowhead, against hated Kansas?
“I’m definitely going to start off playing,” Coffman vowed.
Missouri will need Coffman to add to the 73 receptions for 819 yards and seven touchdowns he’s compiled in nine games. At least to hold attention from a KU defense that has to cover the big tight end, All-American Jeremy Maclin, Saunders, Jared Perry, Danario Alexander and even Washington out of the backfield.
Saunders, at one time, would not have appeared in an opponent’s defensive game plan. He came to Missouri as a walk-on. He’s become a team captain, a leader by example and word and has caught a career-high 54 passes for 680 yards and five touchdowns.
Christopher is Missouri’s second-leading tackler, with 46 of his 80 stops being solo efforts. He’s compiled 6.5 tackles for losses, has a sack, two interceptions and five pass breakups. He is Missouri’s career leader on the field with 304 tackles.
Wolfert is one of the best stories on the team. Had Kansas not eliminated its men’s swimming and diving program, perhaps Wolfert would have been a Jayhawk.
He came to Mizzou as a diver, turned in his aquatics scholarship to walk on to the MU football team and now has hit 55 of 65 career field goals and 175 of 175 PAT kicks on the way to a career contribution of 340 points.
Coffman contends this final Border War game for the Kearney kids, himself, for Wolfert, means everything to the Kansas City kids.
“It’s time to go out and show what we’ve got,” Coffman said. “It’s a huge deal to us.”
All for one and one for all? Well, almost.
Wolfert being from Kansas and all.
“Sometimes you let him be in on the fun,” Saunders kidded. “But then you go out in the parking lot and see those Kansas license plates. You turn your head away from them.
“You get mad when you see them. But you do what you can.”
Christopher said: “He’s part of the team, though. Actually, he’s a pretty decent kicker.”
Said Wolfert said: “Tommy’s right there with me. We both have kind of the same story.
“Walk-ons, taking the harder road. Now we’re both at the same positions of our careers. We’re all family.
“It’s been a long road coming, but we’ve all stayed as a group. We’re all Missouri Tigers.”
All intent on proving that there really is no place like home. Comfy, cozy, yes. A feel-good place. But a place to put it all on the line.
“We’re going to have to be carried off the field,” Coffman said, “if that’s what it takes.”

Only a team that I support would choke and lose a game with 4th and 7 and the idiots knew that they were going to throw to Meier, that's the only receiver they throw to. And they don't cover him, that's why we fail and will always fail.
Make room Baylor and Iowa State, we are coming home.
