Curry, Lions Have Deal In Place
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2009, 5:44 p.m.

Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com reports, and we separately have confirmed, that the Lions have a deal in place with Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry at No. 1 in the draft, if the Lions ultimately decide to make Curry the first overall pick.

We’ve previously heard that the Lions have tentative deals with multiple players, contingent on the Lions choosing to make one of them the No. 1 pick.

(Attention, NFLPA — that’s what you should have done with DeMaurice Smith, David Cornwell, Trace Armstrong, and Troy Vincent.)

Curry recently said that he’d be willing to take less money than the package paid last year to Jake Long by the Dolphins, if Curry were to be the No. 1 overall pick.

And that underscores the conflict of interest that agent Tom Condon currently is experiencing, even though no one seems to care.

As the agent for tackle Jason Smith, Condon should be saying the same thing. But to say such a thing would run counter to the interests of Condon’s other client, Stafford.

Think of it this way — if Condon were representing Curry, would Curry have said he’d take less money than Long?

And Curry’s willing to undercut last year’s top package because he realizes that if he’s not the first overall pick, he’ll at best be the third overall pick. So as long as he’s making more at No. 1 than he’d be making at No. 3, Curry will be ahead of the game financially.

Pretty smart on the Lions part to make sure there is a deal in place with who ever they might take. This puts their player right in camp and makes a hold out a non issue

Smart play by the Lions. Makes me wonder what the price difference is between Curry and Stafford.

I bet Warthog is hoping they go Curry so he can give us an "I told you so" after getting shit for the mock draft.
