Bowlen says Broncos will try to trade Cutler
Posted: News | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Denver Broncos, Jay Cutler, Josh McDaniels, Pat Bowlen

It’s official: QB Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos are getting a divorce.

After a contentious and over a month-long falling-out between Cutler and new coach Josh McDaniels couldn’t be resolved, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen issued the following statement today:

“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

The bad blood between the QB and McDaniels started in late February when word leaked that the new coach reportedly had discussed a deal that would have brought Matt Cassel to Denver and shipped out Cutler. McDaniels tutored Cassel in New England.

Trading Cutler is going to set them back for years. Isnt that oline starting to look a little long in the tooth? Cutler carried that team last year and they very well could become the new bottom feeders in the divison. I want a win in Denver and this could very well make it happen. Im a very happy Chiefs fan.

Pat Bowlen said today that they will indeed trade Jay Cutler. this is good news for us, gettting one of the better qb's in the league out of our division with a few more adjustments we might actually have a chance to win the west

Let me make this as simple as I can:

Do not wish.
Do not hope.
Do not think "happy thoughts".

Instead, get down on your knees and pray to the Deity of your choice that Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez do NOT end up in Denver.

Do not wait.
Do it RIGHT NOW, because this is potentially very bad news.

That's a nice, short-term outlook, but you best now be thinking about who they are going to replace him with. I feared absolutely NOTHING about Jay Cutler. His potential two replacements from this year's draft class are a whole other matter. No, not this year, but two or three years down the road?

This could be bad. Very bad.

this actually fucks us hard core. Likely one less team looking to trade up for Matt Staford. I bet Cutler lands in NY with the J-E-T-S and the donkeys walk away with Tyson Jackson and Chris Wells.

We should honestly just draft Stafford at 3 (If the Lions and Rams go LT, like they are talking) and then do the unthinkable and trade Cassel to the Broncos for a 1st and 3rd/4th.

I don't care how this could backfire on us long term, this is funny as hell! And Pioli had something to do with it me thinks. GOD SAVE PIOLI!

It would be a sonofabitch on the bank/cap, but if I could have them both and make it work; you bet your ass I would.

I agree... It would be nice to be able to keep them both, but we cant spend our 1st and 2nd rounders on QB's lol

I think hed be a good fit for the Jets..I'm sure they'll try and make a move for him so they don't have to draft a QB.

Not a bad idea, considering that if we don't draft some linemen, we'll need at least two.

Sorry. It's just that I've watched hours of those two in preparation for the draft, before the Cassel trade, and I know very well what their upside and overall potential is.

Cutler had finished his 4th year as a QB for Denver, and he hadn't turned the corner yet. Statistically speaking, that bode VERY well for us as a Division rival.
