2009 NFL Mock Draft - 2/25/2009
By Rob Rang
CBSSports.com
Round 1
1. Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia: Marginal performances by the other quarterbacks at the combine confirmed what most already suspected - that Stafford is unquestionably the top passer in this class. The Lions dined with several candidates for the top pick in Indy, including Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry and USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, but they met first with Stafford.
2. St. Louis Rams
Jason Smith, OT, Baylor: With Orlando Pace entering his 13th season and starting RT Alex Barron a year away from free agency, the Rams need to address their tackle situation after missing out on Michigan's Jake Long last year. Smith cemented his position as the top tackle in this class - and a virtual lock for the top four - with an impressive all-around performance at the combine.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest: Considered by many to be the safest pick of the draft, the Chiefs would be wise to add Curry if he's available. Flanked by the playmaking Curry, former first-round pick Derrick Johnson could get the spark needed to rejuvenate his career.

4. Seattle Seahawks
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: Seattle has holes on both sides of the ball, but none more pressing than a lack of playmakers. There isn't a more dominant playmaker in the draft than Crabtree - whose 41 career receiving touchdowns were largely responsible for his being the only two-time winner of the Biletnikof award.
5. Cleveland Browns
Everette Brown, DE, Florida State: Brown is the draft's most explosive pass rusher and the Browns had just 17 sacks last season, but he'd be a better value a few picks later. With only four picks in this draft, Cleveland is expected to entertain offers for this selection.
6. Cincinnati Bengals
Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia: LT Levi Jones has started all 16 games only twice in seven years - and none of the past four seasons. RT Stacy Andrews had surgery in January to repair a torn ACL. Monroe took over for D'Brickashaw Ferguson as a sophomore and was so good at left tackle that he kept last year's No. 15 overall pick Branden Albert inside at left guard. Albert allowed 4.5 sacks in starting 15 of 16 games for Kansas City as a rookie -- all at left tackle.
7. Oakland Raiders
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College: The Raiders finished ahead of only the Detroit Lions in run defense last season, allowing a staggering 159.7 yards per game. Raji's size and strength make him the draft's preeminent run defender, and his stock continues to climb after he impressed scouts at the combine with better than anticipated agility.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars
Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi: Left tackle Khalif Barnes surrendered more sacks last season (7.5) than any other blind-side blocker and is an unrestricted free agent unlikely to return. Oher raised some eyebrows during interviews at the combine, but Jack Del Rio and his coaching staff have extra insight into his ability after coaching him at the Senior Bowl.
9. Green Bay Packers
Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: The Packers' switch to a 3-4 alignment and more zone coverage is going to force the club to reevaluate many of its current starters. Jenkins' pedestrian 40 at the combine could push him out of the top 10, but GM Ted Thompson has shown a willingness to think outside of the box with defensive backs, and Jenkins is much more than a 40 time.
10. San Francisco 49ers
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri: Flashes shown by young receivers Josh Morgan and Jason Hill might not be enough to keep the 49ers from considering Maclin. His ability to make defenders miss would help immediately on an offense desperate for more big plays and give the team options in the return game.
11. Buffalo Bills
Brian Cushing, OLB, Southern California: Angelo Crowell looked like a future standout for the Bills a few years ago, but a torn ACL and his impending free agent status makes Cushing a tempting option. A New Jersey native, Cushing is versatile enough to play opposite Kawika Mitchell and also drop down as a nickel pass rusher.
12. Denver Broncos
Rey Maualuga, ILB, Southern California: Among new coach Josh McDaniels' first moves was to hire Mike Nolan as his defensive coordinator. Nolan, a strong proponent of the 3-4 defense, needs stouter, strong personnel to help the Broncos make the transition from the 4-3. Maualuga, 6-2, 249, could be the centerpiece of the linebacking corps.
13. Washington Redskins
Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi: With only four picks in the 2009 draft, the Redskins cannot afford to make mistakes. The defensive end class, hyped by many, lacks guarantees. Jerry's burst inside would give the Redskins an element they currently lack and provide insurance with three free agents at the position.
14. New Orleans Saints
Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois: The Saints have spent too many years and too many millions of dollars in failed attempts at fixing their secondary. Considering Davis' spectacular upside, New Orleans could spend its first first-round pick on a cornerback since selecting Alex Molden in 1996.
15. Houston Texans
Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas: The Texans already have three former first-round picks along the defensive line, but still lack a legitimate pass rusher opposite DE Mario Williams. Orakpo, winner of three of the four top defensive awards (Nagurski, Hendricks, Lombardi), wasn't as fluid in some of the linebacker drills that proponents of the 3-4 would like and may slip further than many are projecting.
16. San Diego Chargers
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU: The Chargers have shown a willingness to invest high picks in their 3-4 defensive ends in the past, using the 28th overall pick on Luis Castillo in 2005 and the 35th overall on Igor Olshansky in 2004. With Olshansky an unrestricted free agent and thought unlikely to be resigned, the Chargers would be wise to add Jackson, the elite 3-4 defensive end prospect of this draft.
17. New York Jets
Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern California: Coach Rex Ryan may have said all of the right things at the combine about his three quarterbacks, but when the team is "split right down the middle" on which of their current passers can win the starting job, there is a potential problem. Sanchez has the tools to be a franchise quarterback, something that few can claim about the Jets' current group.
18. Chicago Bears
Aaron Maybin, OLB, Penn State: Casual observers might tell you that the Bears have plenty of talent along their defensive line, but those close to the situation know that the club struggled to generate a consistent pass rush from the outside. Maybin is an ascending talent, but might still be a year or two away from being a starter. Used as part of a rotation - as he would be here - Maybin could make an immediate impact.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State: The Bucs are a team in need of an offensive identity. Considering their reliance on 34-year-old Warrick Dunn, 'tweener back Earnest Graham and oft-injured Carnell Williams, new GM Mark Dominik would be wise to consider adding a bell-cow running like Wells should he be available.
20. Detroit Lions (from Dallas)
Andre Smith, OT, Alabama: Smith's lack of preparation and early departure from the combine is going to translate into a significant drop on draft day. The Lions, however, would be wise to take advantage of his falling stock here, instantly improving the size and physicality of their offensive line.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State: Despite franchising L.J. Smith, the Eagles' best tight end through most of last season was receiving specialist Brent Celek. Pettigrew, a dominant blocker, would be a bit of a luxury selection, but considering the importance of the tight end in this offense and the fact that the Eagles have two first-round picks due to their trade last year with Carolina, they can afford it.
22. Minnesota Vikings
Percy Harvin, WR, Florida: The anticipated trade for QB Sage Rosenfels should upgrade the passing game. So, too, would the addition of a versatile slot receiver like Harvin, who could also make an immediate impact as a returner.
23. New England Patriots
Clay Matthews, OLB, Southern California: After not spending a first-round pick on a linebacker since 1990, the Patriots struck gold last year in taking Jerod Mayo. Matthews, Jr. continued his improbable rise from walk-on to potential first -ound pick with an impressive workout at the combine.
24. Atlanta Falcons
Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee: The Falcons have received precious little in the way of a pass rush from their investment in former No. 8 overall selection Jamaal Anderson. Ayers struggled with consistency early in his career, but developed into a team captain as a senior and turned heads at the Senior Bowl.
25. Miami Dolphins
Larry English, OLB, Northern Illinois: The Dolphins have other needs, but considering Bill Parcells' penchant for selecting pass rushers, the fact that 11-year veteran Joey Porter (18) contributed roughly half of Miami's 40 sacks and that this is an especially strong year for the position, few league insiders would be surprised if Miami took another pass rusher here. English, the two-time defending MAC Defensive Player of the Year, showed enough at the combine to consider making the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.
26. Baltimore Ravens
Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland: Perhaps the most exciting aspect of rookie QB Joe Flacco's development last season was his big arm downfield. With teams forced to attack the line of scrimmage due to Baltimore's running game and the precise route-running from Derrick Mason, the speedy Heyward-Bey would be a nice fit.
27. Indianapolis Colts
Evander Hood, DT, Missouri: The Colts always seem to be on the lookout for size and strength on the defensive interior. Hood's steady improvement while at Missouri and impressive performances at the Senior Bowl and combine have his stock soaring.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina)
William Beatty, OT, Connecticut: Under Andy Reid, the Eagles have always shown a willingness to spend first-day picks on young offensive and defensive linemen. Beatty may lack the strength necessary to start immediately, but he has the athleticism for left tackle and could develop behind Tra Thomas (assuming the free agent returns) for a year before taking over.
29. New York Giants
James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State: Linebacker has traditionally been an area of strength for the Giants, but they struggled in this area in 2008 and would like to add youth and versatility to the position. Laurinaitis isn't flashy, but his consistent open-field tackling and ability to play any linebacker position makes him an intriguing fit and a good value here.
30. Tennessee Titans
Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech: The anticipated free-agent defection of Albert Haynesworth will force the Titans to look to the draft for another standout defensive lineman. With no defensive tackles capable of replacing Haynesworth, Tennessee could look outside for a pass rusher to pick up the slack.
31. Arizona Cardinals
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia: Considering the Cardinals' struggles to run the ball last season and Edgerrin James likely to work his way out of town, the Cardinals need to add a feature back in front of Tim Hightower, who is better suited to a short-yardage role. Moreno is viewed by many talent evaluators as a top 10 talent, but his poor workout at the combine and few teams needing help at running back could lead to a stunning drop on draft day.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Eben Britton, OT, Arizona: Only the 49ers (55), Lions (52) and Bengals (51) surrendered more sacks last season than the Super Bowl champs (49). With three free agents at the position, it is easy to see why Pittsburgh would strongly consider Britton, a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a junior.

Josh Freeman, eh.

2009 NFL Mock Draft - 2/25/2009
By Chad Reuter
CBSSports.com
Round 1
1. Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia: Stafford's decision not to throw at the Combine did not cost him the top spot. The Lions already have a lot of money invested in their offensive line. Aaron Curry is a fine player; linebackers are just not selected No. 1 overall.
2. St. Louis Rams
Jason Smith, OT, Baylor: Smith and Monroe are battling for this spot. Smith's intensity and experience playing either side of the line make him the better player -- if by a razor-thin margin.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest: New Chiefs coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli want to emulate New England's success with the 3-4 scheme, making the versatile Curry a natural choice. His Combine interviews and sub 4.6 40s cemented status as a Top 5 lock.

4. Seattle Seahawks
Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia: Walter Jones had microfracture surgery in December and is heading into his 13th season. Monroe's a very good player who could play on the right side if Jones returns for training camp. Michael Crabtree is another potential choice who fills Seattle's need for a playmaker on offense.
5. Cleveland Browns
Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas: Orakpo couldn't participate in the linebacker drills because of a hamstring injury. Did coach Eric Mangini see enough to know the former Longhorn should be a force as a pass rush linebacker in the 3-4?
6. Cincinnati Bengals
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: Assuming T.J. Houshmandzadeh isn't re-signed and agent Drew Rosenhaus doesn't facilitate a Chad Johnson trade, the Crabtree-Johnson duo outside would be Carson Palmer's dream scenario.
7. Oakland Raiders
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri: The Raiders need help for QB JaMarcus Russell. The only question is whether they do so by selecting a difference-maker like Maclin (even when running "only" in the mid 4.4's at almost 6-0, 200 pounds) or left tackle like Michael Oher.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars
Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi: Khalif Barnes is an unhappy free agent, making left tackle a potential position of need. Given Andre Smith's likely move to the right side, Oher's athleticism makes him a fine fit protecting David Garrard's blind side.
9. Green Bay Packers
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College: New defensive coordinator Dom Capers needs players to fit his 3-4 scheme. If Maybin is gone, Raji could be a nice fit on the nose as a one-gap pass-rushing force to complement run-stuffer Ryan Pickett.
10. San Francisco 49ers
Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: The Niners need help at cornerback and free safety, and Jenkins could play either position. The team is also having conversations about WR Jeremy Maclin and QB Mark Sanchez.
11. Buffalo Bills
Everette Brown, DE, Florida State: Buffalo needs help on the edge. Teams already knew TE Brandon Pettigrew wouldn't run lower than 4.8 in Indy, so he's not a serious threat to land in this spot.
12. Denver Broncos
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU: Moving to the 3-4 requires a strong pass-rushing defensive end like Jackson. Former first-round pick Jarvis Moss will have to slide to OLB.
13. Washington Redskins
Andre Smith, OT, Alabama: Jon Jansen isn't getting any younger and the offensive line could use new blood. Smith's potential as a strong right tackle at the next level makes him a value pick.
14. New Orleans Saints
Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois: The Saints need a defensive focus to catch up with their offense and push the team through the playoffs. Davis is not consistent but his speed and strength are too much to ignore.
15. Houston Texans
Brian Cushing, OLB, Southern California: Cushing has potential to be an excellent strong-side linebacker with pass rush and coverage ability. Florida WR Percy Harvin could be a speedy complement to Andre Johnson, but his injury history is a concern.
16. San Diego Chargers
Aaron Maybin, OLB, Penn State: Shawne Merriman is a free agent after 2009 and the Chargers' defense suffered without him last season. Maybin's potential will invite a lot of interest in the middle of the first round. Knowshon Moreno is in the running, even with the unimpressive 40 time at the Combine, because LT's future is uncertain.
17. New York Jets
Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern California: Brett Favre's retirement forces the Jets to consider a quarterback. If they like Kellen Clemens or Brett Ratliff enough to pass on Sanchez, they could take a stab at Harvin.
18. Chicago Bears
Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland: Someone will reach for Heyward-Bey because of his size-speed combination. The Bears desparately need that sort of athleticism across from Devin Hester. The consistency of Heywayd-Bey's hands is a major question, but his ability to win jump balls is not lost on teams.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia: Teams aren't worried about Moreno's 40 time. His explosiveness and cutting ability as a runner and receiver make him a legitimate first-round pick. The Bucs will rely on him immediately.
20. Detroit Lions
Rey Maualuga, ILB, Southern California: The Lions need a hammer inside and Maualuga brings the nails. But this pick could be packaged with their early second- or third-round selection to get Mark Sanchez if Detroit decides to pass on Stafford at No. 1.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State: Ignore the 4.8 40 time -- teams knew he would run in that range. He's still the best all-around tight end and coach Andy Reid would love to have him.
22. Minnesota Vikings
D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt: With CB Antoine Winfield aging and little depth beyond Cedric Griffin at the position, Moore would be a smart choice. He could also help the return game.
23. New England Patriots
Clay Matthews, OLB, Southern California: NFL people think Matthews may be the best of the USC group by the time his career is over. Northern Illinois' Larry English is another pass rushing OLB on the radar.
24. Atlanta Falcons
Larry English, OLB, Northern Illinois: Starters Michael Boley and Keith Brooking are free agents. With a deep linebacker crop in the first round, English, a defensive end for the Huskies, or Virginia's Clint Sintim are possibilities.
25. Miami Dolphins
Percy Harvin, WR, Florida: Only Harvin's injury history pushes him down the board. A good medical grade and his expected quickness on the track could add up to a mid first-round selection.
26. Baltimore Ravens
Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina: QB Joe Flacco needs more than Derrick Mason on the outside to succeed, and Nicks can provide the help. Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle are getting older, too, so a corner like Alphonso Smith might fit the bill.
27. Indianapolis Colts
Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi: Brings strength, hustle and toughness inside. Corner Alphonso Smith would fit their defense, too, but this choice comes down to value.
28. Philadelphia Eagles
Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State: Speaking of value ... Larry Johnson fell into the late first round a few years ago, and Wells could be in a similar predicament. Brian Westbrook's age and injury history would make Wells an enticing pick as a complementary back.
29. New York Giants
Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech: Athleticism at the Combine surprised no one, but now teams go back to check the tape - and they'll see his inconsistency that keeps him a late first round value. Nicks or Heyward-Bey might be options to supplant Plaxico Burress and/or the unhappy Amani Toomer.
30. Tennessee Titans
Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest: His cover skills and big-play ability should attract the Titans. Losing DT Albert Haynesworth would make the D-line a priority.
31. Arizona Cardinals
LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh: McCoy will be coveted if Edgerrin James works his way out of town. Karlos Dansby may be on the way out as a free agent, so a linebacker could be in the fold.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Eben Britton, OT, Arizona: The Steelers' offensive line faces some upheaval, although franchising right tackle Max Starks stops the bleeding at least temporarily. Britton could step in on the other side as a rookie.
Round 2
1. Detroit Lions
Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut: Exactly the type of playmaker the Lions need in the secondary.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State: A likely riser in the draft won't make it past the top of the second round.

3. St. Louis Rams
James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State: Sliding Will Witherspoon to the "WILL" with Laurinaitis inside makes the Rams' D better.
4. Cleveland Browns
Alex Mack, C, California: Could replace Hank Fraley in the pivot or play right guard.
5. Seattle Seahawks
Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State: Might not be special but will be reliable.
6. Cincinnati Bengals
Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia: Strong OLB class pushes quality into Round 2.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars
Evander Hood, DT, Missouri: Hood's strength and agility would be an asset next to John Henderson.
8. Oakland Raiders
Sean Smith, CB, Utah: Could he be the next Nnamdi Asomugha two years down the line?
9. Green Bay Packers
James Casey, TE, Rice: Casey is a super-sized version of 2008 second-rounder WR Jordy Nelson.
10. Buffalo Bills
Max Unger, C, Oregon: Tough, athletic and capable of starting as a rookie.
11. San Francisco 49ers
Connor Barwin, DE, Cincinnati: Mike Vrabel clone had a nice Combine, didn't impact second-round grade.
12. Miami Dolphins
Jairus Byrd, CB, Oregon: Fiesty corner with the strength to fit in Miami's hard-nosed defense.
13. New York Giants
Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers: Potential loss of Toomer, Burress creates need for big target.
14. Houston Texans
Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee: Pairing with Mario Williams could mean trouble for AFC South tackle tandems.
15. New England Patriots
Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon: New England could build one of the league's top young safety tandems.
16. Denver Broncos
Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut: All-around game makes Brown another golden find in the second round for Denver.
17. Chicago Bears
Louis Delmas, FS, Western Michigan: Upgrading here helps spare Chicago's corners. Delmas brings playmaking element to Tampa Two.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn: Active in the middle, Marks fills a glaring need in the one-gap system.
19. Dallas Cowboys
Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma: There might not be a bitter fit for the Cowboys' beefy blocking brigade in this draft.
20. New York Jets
Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose State: Combo DT-DE would be a permanent fixture as a 3-4 end.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
William Beatty, OT, Connecticut: Has a lot of upside and the athleticism to try him at OLT spot.
22. Minnesota Vikings
Philip Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma: Inconsistent Ryan Cook is likely to move inside, and Loadholt is a natural right tackle suited for the Vikings' offense.
23. Atlanta Falcons
Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina: Has 4.5 speed to threaten the seam, creating another concern for defenses gearing up to stop Michael Turner.
24. Miami Dolphins
Marcus Freeman, OLB, Ohio State: Brings speed to a Miami front ready to reload.
25. Baltimore Ravens
Darry Beckwith, ILB, LSU: Losing Bart Scott -- and possibly Ray Lewis -- creates glaring concern at LB spots.
26. New England Patriots
Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech: Perfect zone corner for the Patriots' defensive system.
27. Carolina Panthers
Paul Kruger, DE, Utah: Tall and long, he's a high-effort player the Carolina braintrust will appreciate.
28. New York Giants
Cornelius Ingram, TE, Florida: Receiving corps makeover continues with an athletic and versatile tight end.
29. Indianapolis Colts
Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma: With Marvin Harrison gone, Iglesias can be a third option behind Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez.
30. Tennessee Titans
Ron Brace, DT, Boston College: Not a Haynesworth replacement, but has solid strength inside.
31. Arizona Cardinals
Herman Johnson, OG, LSU: Went from 384 pounds at the Senior Bowl to 364 at the Combine, rare size with surprising agility the Arizona O-line would welcome.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty: Could be special in the Steelers' power running scheme.
Round 3
1. Detroit Lions
Louis Murphy, WR, Florida: A nice speed complement to Calvin Johnson.
2. St. Louis Rams
Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa: His pounding running style makes him a solid relief option when Steven Jackson isn't on the field.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
David Veikune, DE, Hawaii: Combine showed he's more than a high-motor end.

4. Seattle Seahawks
Coye Francies, CB, San Jose State: Brings needed size to the secondary.
5. Dallas Cowboys
William Moore, FS, Missouri: Flashed just enough playmaking ability to entice Jerry Jones.
6. Cincinnati Bengals
Eric Wood, C, Louisville: Durable, tough and athletic enough to be a steal at this spot.
7. Oakland Raiders
Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina: Speed is the name of the game for Al Davis, even in his offensive tackles.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars
Michael Hamlin, SS, Clemson: A potential replacement for free agent Gerald Sensabaugh.
9. Green Bay Packers
Andy Levitre, OG, Oregon State: Should compete for a starting spot as a rookie.
10. San Francisco 49ers
Patrick White, QB, West Virginia: Tempting upside and the 49ers will find a spot for him.
11. Buffalo Bills
Jonathan Luigs, C, Arkansas: Duke Preston didn't get it done last season.
12. New York Jets
Mike Mickens, CB, Cincinnati: Film study, production say he's better than a third-round pick.
13. Houston Texans
Andre Brown, RB, North Carolina State: Brings strength and good speed as a change-of-pace to Steve Slaton.
14. San Diego Chargers
Kraig Urbik, OG, Wisconsin: A ready replacement for ORG Mike Goff if the Chargers go young.
15. Denver Broncos
Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama: Opinion differs on Johnson's worth, but the Broncos would jump to get him 79th overall.
16. Washington Redskins
Louie Sakoda, K, Utah: Shaun Suisham was unsteady in 2008 and Sakoda brings accuracy.
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Nate Davis, QB, Ball State: Needs seasoning but has arm strength, potential.
18. Detroit Lions
Alex Magee, DT, Purdue: Versatile and would fill one of team's many weak spots.
19. Green Bay Packers
Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, South Florida: Could play inside or outside ina 3-4 scheme.
20. Chicago Bears
Chip Vaughn, SS, Wake Forest: Tough and athletic he's an upgrade over injury-prone Mike Brown.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
Darcel McBath, FS, Texas Tech: Injuries, age have hurt the Eagles' secondary. McBath is a rangy playmaker.
22. Minnesota Vikings
Antoine Caldwell, C, Alabama: With Matt Birk writing his own ticket out of town, the interior OL will be addressed.
23. Miami Dolphins
Trevor Canfield, OG, Cincinnati: Strong offensive guard ready to play in this run-based offense.
24. Baltimore Ravens
Keenan Lewis, CB, Oregon State: Has it all: size, speed and athleticism.
25. New England Patriots
Mohamed Massaquoi, WR, Georgia: Thin behind Moss and Welker, New England could use Massaquoi in the red zone as a rookie.
26. Atlanta Falcons
Ricky Jean-Francois, DT, LSU: Atlanta wants to improve inside.
27. New York Giants
Fili Moala, DT, Southern California: Flashes playmaking ability similar to current starter Fred Robbins.
28. Indianapolis Colts
Captain Munnerlyn, CB, South Carolina: Plays bigger than his 5-8, 185-pound frame would indicate.
29. Carolina Panthers
Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly: Potential replacement for Muhammad opposite Steve Smith.
30. Tennessee Titans
Mike Thomas, WR, Arizona: He might be 5-8, but he's as quick and reliable as any receiver in the draft.
31. Arizona Cardinals
Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri: Best hands in draft, he's downgraded because of injury concerns.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Asher Allen, CB, Georgia: Corner depth could disappear in free agency, but Steelers are draft aces because of picks like this one.

2008 NFL Mock Draft
By Pete Prisco
2/12/2009
CBSSports.com

1. Detroit Lions
NFL TEAM
Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia: All they have to do is look to what the Atlanta Falcons did once they landed a franchise quarterback. The value is too great. They can't pass up Stafford.
2. St. Louis Rams
NFL TEAM
Andre Smith, T, Alabama: It is imperative that they get better on the offensive line and Smith is the pick here over Baylor's Jason Smith. It wouldn't shock to see Jason Smith here before it's all done.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
NFL TEAM
Mark Sanchez, QB, USC: New GM comes from New England where he had Tom Brady. New coach Todd Haley comes from Arizona where he had Kurt Warner. Tyler Thigpen isn't the answer.

4. Seattle Seahawks
NFL TEAM
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech: This team needs a playmaker in the worst way. Crabtree can do for the Seahawks what Larry Fitzgerald did for the Cardinals.
5. Cleveland Browns
NFL TEAM
Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest: This is a special player who will make an impact immediately for a Browns team that needs more defensive playmakers.
6. Cincinnati Bengals
NFL TEAM
Jason Smith, T, Baylor: This former tight end has the feet scouts love. He will be a 10-year starter and will be like Ryan Clady was for the Broncos last season.
7. Oakland Raiders
NFL TEAM
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College: They paid Tommy Kelly a lot of money, but didn't get much value for it. Raji can be a dominant inside player. His stock is on the move up.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars
NFL TEAM
Eugene Monroe, T, Virginia: They would love to trade down and add picks, but if they stay here they have to take a franchise tackle. Monroe will start as a rookie at left tackle if they take him.
9. Green Bay Packers
NFL TEAM
Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State: The one thing that showed up every week for the Packers was their lack of pass rush. Maybin can help that and can play a 3-4 rush linebacker as they move to that under Dom Capers.
10. San Francisco 49ers
NFL TEAM
Everette Brown, DE-LB, Florida State: He can play down end and stand up in the 3-4. He's a great kid who plays hard all the time.
11. Buffalo
NFL TEAM
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State: They need to get a threat in the middle of the field to take the pressure off Lee Evans. Pettigrew can be that special kind of receiving tight end.
12. Denver Broncos
NFL TEAM
Brian Cushing, LB, USC: He can play inside or outside and he's played down end as well. He's the versatile player the Broncos need to help their defense.
13. Washington Redskins
NFL TEAM
Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas: They need help with their pass rush and Orakpo has nice speed off the corner. They could go for an offensive lineman here, but that would be a reach with the top three gone.
14. New Orleans Saints
NFL TEAM
Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: They had trouble with big plays last season, so they take this smooth cover player to help in the secondary. Mike McKenzie isn't a kid anymore and Tracy Porter is coming off a season-ending injury.
15. Houston Texans
NFL TEAM
Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois: They will likely lose Dunta Robinson, so they take a player who can step in as a rookie and play.
16. San Diego Chargers
NFL TEAM
Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State: LaDainian Tomlinson is coming to the end of his career and there is some bad blood between Tomlinson and the team. Wells can spot him if Tomlinson stays, then take over in a year or two.
17. New york Jets
NFL TEAM
Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC: New coach Rex Ryan might make a play for Ray Lewis, but he'd be wise to wait and take this Rey. He's perfect for what Ryan likes to do.
18. Chicago Bears
NFL TEAM
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri: They have to get more big plays outside in their passing game. Maclin has great speed. They could also take an offensive tackle.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL TEAM
Percy Harvin, WR-RB, Florida: They have to get more weapons on offense. New coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski likes to be more vertical than did Jon Gruden.
20. Detroit Lions (From Dallas)
NFL TEAM
Michael Oher, T, Mississippi Jeff Backus isn't a kid anymore at left tackle.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
NFL TEAM
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia: Brian Westbrook is getting up in the years and he missed time with injuries last season. They need a better inside runner.
22. Minnesota Vikings
NFL TEAM
Alex Mack, C, California: Matt Birk is done and with a team that likes to run it with Adrian Peterson they need somebody who can get some push inside.
23. New England Patriots
NFL TEAM
Larry English, OLB, Northern Illinois: He is perfect for what the Patriots do. He is a 3-4 rush linebacker. They could also look for help in the secondary or offensive line here.
24. Atlanta Falcons
NFL TEAM
Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn: They need help inside in a big way. Marks isn't a big guy, but he is plenty quick and disruptive.
25. Miami Dolphins
NFL TEAM
Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia: They could use a receiver, but it's doubtful Bill Parcells would take one here. Secondary help is needed, but the value isn't there. So they settle on a James Harrison-style of linebacker.
26. Baltimore Ravens
NFL TEAM
Darius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland: They take a local kid who will add a big-play option to their passing game. Derrick Mason isn't a kid anymore.
27. Indianapolis Colts
NFL TEAM
Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi: He is the perfect fit for their defensive style. He is quick and fast at 295 pounds. Reminds me of a young Warren Sapp.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (From Carolina)
NFL TEAM
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU: The way they play defense you can never have enough pass rushers. This kid is a big, powerful end who can rush the passer.
29. New York Giants
NFL TEAM
Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina With the uncertainty over the return of Plaxico Burress, they have to address this position. Nicks is a big fast receiver who can make an impact as a rookie.
30. Tennessee Titans
NFL TEAM
James Laurinaitis , LB, Ohio State: If there is one weak position on the Tennessee defense it's middle linebacker. This kid would be a nice fix.
31. Arizona Cardinals
NFL TEAM
LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh: They need a home run threat to add to that passing offense. McCoy has that type of ability.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
NFL TEAM
Eben Britton, T, Arizona They have four players on their line who are unrestricted free agents. Britton is a big 6-8 player who seems perfect for the Steelers.

You've got to hand it to Reuter for going three rounds with his picks.

But giving us Freeman when Lau is there. No way. Lau is a Pioli kind of guy. A eral football player. If he tested better he would be a top 20 pick, and still might be.

Too funny. All mock drafts are subjective. I bet if you took what will actually happen in the draft and posted it here today everyone would laugh and say that will never happen.

Exclusive: NFL Draft Bible Mock Draft 5.0 Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Written by Rick Serritella Monday, 23 March 2009 14:45 Get the latest NFL Draft Bible Mock Draft, by Rick Serritella.

Posted Image1 Detroit Lions – Jason Smith*, OT, Baylor
Our sources have indicated that a deal with the Lions could get done sooner rather than later. An impressive combine showing sealed Smith's fate as the number one overall pick, despite his shortcomings that show up on tape in pass blocking.

2 St. Louis Rams – Matthew Stafford*, QB, Georgia
With the opportunity to give the disheartened fans of St. Louis something to be excited about, the Rams find it too tempting to pass on Stafford. With a porous offensive line, the injury-riddled, vulnerable Marc Bulger will be exposed to additional hits and is standing on his last legs.

3 Kansas City Chiefs – Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
With the change of defensive philosophy switching over to the 3-4 scheme, who better to pair up with Mike Vrabel to roam the middle and learn the ropes than Curry. Vrabel is the ultimate "hold-the-fort-guy" that will help install the philosophies that the new Chiefs hierarchy is looking to implement.

4 Seattle Seahawks – Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
With Walter Jones entering his fourteenth season, the Seahawks get themselves an eventual successor in the long-term and a quick short-term fix that would make the Seahawks current offensive line much improved. The selection of Monroe would allow Sean Locklear to shift back to guard, where he is better suited and help fill the void created by the departure of Sean Hutchinson three seasons ago, which has since to be filled.

5 Cleveland Browns – Brian Orakpo, OLB, Texas
The quest for head coach Eric Mangini to finally fulfill his ongoing search to find an impact pass-rusher continues. As a team in dire need of someone who can rush the quarterback, the Browns grant Mangini his wish with the selection of Orakpo. The Vernon Gholston experiment with the Jets failed horribly. Orakpo looks to bring better luck to Cleveland.

Posted Image6 Cincinnati Bengals – Everette Brown, DE, Florida State
With a premium being emphasized on players who can apply pressure on the quarterback, Brown stands out amongst this year's defensive end class. Brown is someone who can make an immediate impact and play with his hand in the dirt. However, some teams feel he may be better suited coming off the edge as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

7 Oakland Raiders – Michael Crabtree**, WR, Texas Tech
Does anyone really believe that Raiders owner Al Davis could resist the temptation of being able to add JaMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden & Michael Crabtree in three consecutive drafts? That trio could provide potential star-power that Davis craves and the ever-more important increased jersey sales.

8 Jacksonville Jaguars – Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
The loss of Khalif Barnes to the Raiders leaves a gaping hole on the offensive line, as Barnes has served as the Jags starting left tackle for the past four seasons. The Jaguars cannot afford to enter the season without assuring themselves protection for David Garrard's blind-side. Oher provides Jacksonville with an option that makes for an easy transition.

9 Green Bay Packers – Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
With the starting duo of Al Harris and Charles Woodson turning 35 and 36 years old respectively this season, the Packers need a pair of fresh legs to inject some youth into the secondary. Green Bay has apparently met with Jenkins and came away quite impressed from his private workout. This scenario would also reunite Jenkins with former Buckeye teammate A.J. Hawk.

Posted Image10 San Francisco 49ers – B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
Head Coach Mike Singletary recognizes the importance of having an agile tackle that can clog the middle on defense and is this scenario, Raji falls right into the 49ers lap. Depending on how the top few picks play out, Raji could be selected as high as a top-five overall pick. This would be an excellent value pick should he slide to San Francisco.

11 Buffalo Bills – Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
The Bills have made it no secret that they will address their defensive pass-rush during the draft and look for them to make this an area of priority with their first pick. Ayers is one of the rare traditional defensive ends in this draft and would immediately compete for a starting job, as Chris Kelsay was relegated to backup duties last season and/or provide insurance for Aaron Schobel and his barky knees.

12 Denver Broncos – Vontae Davis*, CB, Illinois
Out with the old and in with the new. It didn't take long for the new regime in Denver to figure out that they were in need of an upgrade on defense at the cornerback position opposite of Champ Bailey. Veteran corner Dre' Bly was released. Domonique Foxworth and Karl Paymah were allowed to walk in free agency. With no other proven cornerbacks on the roster, obtaining one is a priority and Davis fits the bill.

13 Washington Redskins – Aaron Maybin, OLB, Penn State
The performance that Maybin put on at Penn State's pro day has warranted first-round status. After working with a personal trainer, Maybin has added 25 pounds and is now up to 252. In addition to the extra bulk, he also shaved nearly two-tenths of a second off his forty-time from the combine, running a 4.59. Don't be surprised if Redskins owner Daniel Snyder buys the hype after his flirtation with Jason Taylor completely backfired.

Posted Image14 New Orleans Saints – Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
Every so often there are players destined to have better pro careers than their college career indicates and Cushing is one of those players. He shared the spotlight at USC laying alongside Rey Maualuga and Clay Matthews this past season but Cushing possesses the physical attributes and smart instincts necessary to become a successful pro.

15 Houston Texans – Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
The Texans have sorely lacked a complimentary wide receiver to team with Andre Johnson. The explosive Maclin, who has been timed in the sub-4.3 forty range is a certified speedburner. Be aware, there is some risk that accompanies Maclin. Many evaluators feel Maclin may not have the build or the durability to last an entire sixteen-game season. The frightening reality is that having a healthy Maclin for twelve games a year would be worth the price.

16 San Diego Chargers – Knowshon Moreno**, RB, Georgia
It's no secret that the relationship between running back LaDainian Tomnlinson and general manager A.J. Smith has been fractured. Smith secretly wants to book Tomlinson a first-class ticket out of town but interest around the league has been lukewarm. The selection of Moreno would allow the Chargers to pull off a draft-day deal and rid themselves of a player on the decline. It should be noted that Tomlinson has accumulated 2,741 carries over the past eight seasons, including the playoffs. To put that into perspective, that's more carries than O.J. Anderson had during his entire fourteen-year career.

17 New York Jets – Mark Sanchez*, QB, USC
The fifteen teams that pick after the Rams (Stafford) all have a starting quarterback in place, aside from the Broncos, whose relationship with Jay Cutler is in a current state of flux. That leaves Sanchez to do the slip'n'slide all the way down to the Jets. New York would be a huge culture shock for the Hollywood pretty boy but the Jets cannot justify to their newly PSL-buying fans a quarterback competition between Brett Ratliff and Kellen Clemens heading into the season. Last year's seventeenth overall pick, Gosder Cherilus signed a 5-yr, $15M deal, with $8.9M guaranteed. A similar contract would be very manageable for the Jets in exchange of netting a potential starting quarterback.

Posted Image18 Chicago Bears – Rey Mauluga, ILB, USC
This would be the ultimate match-made in heaven. Maualuga is a no-nonsense linebacker who swarms to the football and would be the next in line to be handed down the torch of Chicago's rich tradition (Dick Butkus, Mike Singletary & Brian Urlacher) at the middle linebacker position. The trio of Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Maualuga would make for one of the more ferocious linebacker units in the league.

19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State
The Bucs figure to be out of the running for Jay Cutler unless a third team gets involved, which is unlikely despite media speculation to the contrary. Look for Tampa to have to settle for Freeman, who possesses a raw skill-set and is expected to need a year or two of grooming. Depending on Luke McCown to be their primary signal-caller presents a scary proposition but the Buccaneers will be left with very few alternatives at this point.

20 Detroit Lions (from Dallas) – Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
The Lions will play the waiting game to see if Sanchez or Freeman slide and could potentially trade up if they have identified a quarterback whom they believe can succeed. Should they fail to obtain a quarterback, the Lions feel comfortable adding the necessary pieces needed in order to be able to start competing this year and address the quarterback position next season. The selection of Perry fills a dire need and allows Detroit to find out what they have in Daunte Culpepper and Drew Stanton before they address that position.

21 Philadelphia Eagles – Andre Smith*, OT, Alabama
Once considered to be in contention as the top overall pick, Smith shuddered his chances by going AWOL at the combine and then posting mediocre numbers at his individual pro day workout. The Eagles were decimated with free agent defections during free agency and have never shied away from taking a gamble on a lineman. The need to find a starting tackle is so great the Eagles will be willing to overlook the character concerns and perceived baggage that comes along with Smith.

22 Minnesota Vikings – Lawrence Sidbury Jr., DE, Richmond
The Vikings have gone against the grain with their draft strategy in the past and the selection of Sidbury would be the surprise pick of the first round. His speed and quickness would be a perfect compliment to All Pro Jared Allen on the defensive front. The Vikings were unsuccessful trying to replace Kenechi Udeze (leukemia) last season and Sidbury's speed (4.67 forty-yard dash) would be a welcomed asset.

23 New England Patriots – Clay Matthews Jr., OLB, USC
The versatile Matthews brings the work ethic and dedicated demeanor that the Patriots seek. With Teddy Bruschi running on fumes, the addition of Matthews would set-up an eventual move of Adalius Thomas to the inside, with Matthews taking over on the outside. Age has affected New England's linebacker corps greatly over the past few seasons and they will look to continue to strengthen this position via the draft.

Posted Image24 Atlanta Falcons – Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia
The Falcons found success replacing middle linebacker Keith Brooking with their selection of Curtis Lofton in the first round of last year's draft. Atlanta will look to strike gold two years in a row, as they attempt to plug the hole created at outside linebacker, when Michael Boley bolted for the Giants. Sintim has remained under the radar leading up to the draft but is a polished player who brings experience playing both inside and outside, something the Falcons are in need of.

25 Miami Dolphins – Ron Brace, DT, Boston College
The NFL Draft Bible currently has Brace graded higher than defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer, a surprise first round pick who was selected in a similar range during last year's draft. It has become evident that Bill Parcells and the Dolphins can no longer depend on the aging Jason Ferguson. And if Miami's 3-4 defense is to be considered legitimate, it is mandatory that they address the nose tackle position. The 6'3, 330-pound Brace is the only true nose tackle available in this year's draft and will not be there for the taking in round two. A trade-down scenario would also be another possibility for the 'Fins.

26 Baltimore Ravens – Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
A playmaker for quarterback Joe Flacco is much needed and could possibly take the Ravens offense to another level. With the added dimension that Harvin brings as a running back and capability of playing the wild cat, this selection would strengthen the offensive emphasis that John Harbaugh has tried to implement since taking over as head coach. In 2008 we saw the evolution of the wild cat…could a backfield trio of Flacco, Harvin and Troy Smith be in the works for '09?

Posted Image27 Indianapolis Colts – Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
The Colts have consistently selected towards the bottom of the first round during the Bill Polian Era and have steadily found players who fit their system on a regular basis. After an emotional divorce with future Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison, the Colts find away to plug a need yet again with the selection of Hicks.

28 Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina) – Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
The Eagles made no attempt in retaining L.J Smith in free agency and had every intention of going in another direction. Andy Reid has gone on record to compare his wide receivers to any cast in the league. This will allow the team to address their need for a tight end. It's been a tough off-season in Philadelphia and the addition of Pettigrew would be one move that disgruntled quarterback Donovan McNabb would certainly endorse.

29 New York Giants – Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
The Giants were unable to hide their shoddy secondary last season, as the cornerback unit was exposed on a regular basis. The G-Men are in absolute need of both a talent upgrade and depth at this position. Don't be surprised if New York uses multiple draft picks on the secondary. Veteran retreads such as Sam Madison, Sammy Knight and R.W. McQuarters need to be weeded out. Smith would help to stabilize a unit that already includes Aaron Ross, Corey Webster and Kevin Dockery.

Posted Image30 Tennessee Titans – Alex Mack, C, California
Titans locker room leader Kevin Mawae started showing some tread last season and recently turned 38 years old. Mack is considered to be one of the safest players to pick in this year's draft in many scouts opinions. Mack's upside may not be as great as other prospects but you what you're getting; a player who has the polish to have a long career at the next level. Mawae to Mack would be a seamless transition.

31 Arizona Cardinals – Jared Cook**, TE, South Carolina
The thought of being able to add a tight end with a tremendous amount of speed to an already potent offense attack is an enticing proposition. Cook turned heads at the combine, blazing a 4.50 forty-yard dash and has received high praise from Gamecocks headman Steve Spurrier. Adding Cook to current targets Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston could lead the Cardinals back to the big dance and continue to help Kurt Warner set new records.

32 Pittsburgh Steelers – Darrius Heyward-Bey*, WR, Maryland
While Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes form a dangerous starting duo, the Steelers have very little else, after Nate Washington chose to sign with the Titans during the off-season. Limas Sweed, last year's second round selection was injured for most of last season and Dallas Baker hasn't flashed much as a pro. To be able to add a deep-threat talent such as Heyward-Bey would be a luxury to the Super Bowl Champs.

Dropped Out:
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU - James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State - LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh - Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers - Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut - George "Duke" Robinson, Oklahoma

The Josh Freeman pick by the Bucs at 19 kinda shocked me.
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.

PFT's latest. Do they really think we are going to take a B actor whose biggest film was '1941'? They say a safety never goes this high, well I've never seen a projected right tackle drafted this high.

http://profootballta...draft-take-two/

5. Chiefs: Trent Williams, offensive tackle, Oklahoma.

Eric Berry is popularly mocked here, but we don't envision a safety going in the top five. Williams' "floor" is low because he projects as a Pro Bowl right tackle if he doesn't pan out on the left side.

An 'expert' on 610am said this morning that in his mock draft he has the Chiefs taking Earl Thomas or Ronaldo McClain at #5.

He settled on Earl Thomas as the choice. Oh boy.

PFT's latest. Do they really think we are going to take a B actor whose biggest film was '1941'? They say a safety never goes this high, well I've never seen a projected right tackle drafted this high.

5. Chiefs: Trent Williams, offensive tackle, Oklahoma.

Eric Berry is popularly mocked here, but we don't envision a safety going in the top five. Williams' "floor" is low because he projects as a Pro Bowl right tackle if he doesn't pan out on the left side.

Does this site have a comments section, and if so, did anyone ask him when an actual RT was actually named to the Pro Bowl?

Glad that the Chiefs didn't take Curry.

Still not too pleased with Tyson Jackson pick, but the jury is still too early to make a fair assessment for him.
