Trading for Peavy would make the Cubs favorites in the NL. He's an ace that isn't paid like one so the contract won't kill you either.

My issue with Peavy stems from the sucker punch he delivered to Derrek Lee's kidney while one of his teammates (can't remember who) was holding Lee's arms down at his sides. You do not punch a man in the back, and in particular you do not punch a man in the kidney. I lost all respect I had for him at that moment, and I was very pleased when we sent San Diego Michael Barrett to catch for him.
I'm not sure what the hell the Cubs think they're doing by letting go of DeRosa, Blanco, and especially Wood. None of the three were costing them a lot of money and all three were playing key roles and performing at a high level. This win-at-all-costs mentality is going to sink them, and Cubs fans will have to endure three or four very difficult years of watching a roster full of overpaid geriatrics and young guys that aren't ready to be out of AAA ball.

C'mon you can't get caught up in that type of stuff. It's cliche but true... front of the jersey matters more than the back. It's not any different than Chief fans that don't want Shanahan because of his history at Denver.
As for Wood, I would have kept him around too but at least there is a good replacement waiting in the wings to close.

If Wood did stay it would have been as a closer. And as I said, I'm with you and absolutely would have kept him since it only took a 2 year deal at anything but crazy cash. But at the same time it doesn't kill you since you have a replacement.
The biggest problem for the Mets last year was after Wagner went down there was no one to step into the closer's role.

Everyone's a comedian.
As for Bradley, the Cubs probably overpaid for the market... Three years at 10 per is a bit much for a 30 year old, but assuming he doesn't go crazy (probably a big assumption for me) he'll always hit.

They kinda suck this year, but I think I may have picked the Indians as my AL team for the time being. I supported them two years ago in the playoffs because they had Borowski and Lofton, who were two of my favorites on the 2003 Cubs team. Now they have DeRosa and Wood (who comes pretty damn close to being my favorite Cub), and they've kept at least some of their rotation in tact.

I was the one that wanted Marmol closing over Gregg. And as for Scales, he's showing the Cubs a big mistake on signing Miles. Miles is udderly worthless, why they haven't cut him yet, I don't really the fuck know.

I wonder if Cleveland would take Gregg and Miles in exchange for Wood.
