Chiefs Free agency rumor links Chiefs to DT Star Lotulelei
Free agency rumor links Chiefs to DT Star Lotulelei
By Joel Thorman@ArrowheadPride  Mar 6, 2018

The NFL’s free agency period is a time for rumors. A bunch of players will be hitting the market and will be available to be signed by a bunch of teams so you get a lot of NFL folks talking about different players they like and then those people talk to the media and BOOM! You have a free agency rumor.

Tony Pauline reports that the Chiefs and the Texans are two teams who have shown interest in Star Lotulelei, the Panthers defensive tackle that’s slated for free agency on March 14.

The Chiefs lost Dontari Poe a year ago and appear set to lose Bennie Logan at the nose tackle position this year. The Chiefs could use more help on the defensive line, especially if Allen Bailey ends up being a cap casualty (which is just salary cap speculation, no reports there).

The Chiefs will be pushing $30 million in cap space if all these moves that have been reported (like the Alex Smith trade) end up going down so they can clearly afford a player like Lotulelei if they want.

How much will he cost? SB Nation’s Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, suggests a $10-11 million per year deal could do it.
$10+ seems high to me. Star has not lived up to expectations.

If we can get him cheap enough, ok. Otherwise, pay less for a less well known name and get similar results.

Either way, we should draft a DL or two.
If someone pays him 10-11 million they deserve what they get. This is not a dominant NT, he is serviceable. He can stuff the run, he can take up two blockers; however, he hasn't shown that he is "the" man.

I agree with the point of getting him cheap. I am not against him for a decent price.

Pure blind luck... it's been protecting children from fire for centuries!
In a passing league, KC needs to get much better at rushing the QB and covering WR's.

Stopping the run is important, but not so much now that teams pass 50 times a game.  Why pay this much for an underachiever?
