Even if it was, Herm's behavior during the presser was incredibly bizarre.

The Chiefs reaped some very productive drafts during Herms tenure.  Was that Herms or Carl’s doing?

Did they really?

2008 was great thanks to the Jared Allen picks and the fact that it was an incredibly deep draft.  Charles was a 3rd round pick but a first round talent.  Flowers was a top talent.  Those guys slid because there was a lot of depth that year, and KC also happened to have a LOT of picks.

I think his drafts in 2006 and 07 were awful outside of the successful first round.  07 in particular was a disastrously bad draft.  Turk McBride and Tank Tyler and Kolby Smith and Justin Medlock... good lord.  What kind of dipshit spends a 5th round draft pick on a kicker and then cuts him after 1 game?  Nice scouting!

But you're right.  Herm wasn't operating in a vacuum just as DV and Marty weren't.  Carl always had final say.

As far as I know Herm actually got ONE pick that was entirely his and he was allowed to choose anyone as a gift.  He picked Brandon Carr.  Which... was actually a REALLY good pick for a 5th round CB.
