Tony Gonzalez is a Falcon

I'm more pissed about putting off the 2nd round pick until next year than I am that Gonzalez is leaving. Anything can happen in the NFL. Did the Cardinals fans seriously think they were going to the Super Bowl last year? Nope. No one can honestly think that a team is out of it in the NFL. My personal belief was that our head coach and defensive coordinator was holding us back the last few years more than our players. This is the NFL, any team can go from worst to first here.

I am tuning in for the rest of the story guys...This is not over yet. Piloi is not like CP or Herm. The guy is a lot smarter than that.

Tune in people!! It could get good.

I agree, I can see this seriously altering the draft now. Though, sometimes they do keep things hush hush for awhile. Maybe we turn up getting a 3rd pick this year.

What do we do on 3rd and long now!?! Why trade a 2nd for a QB and then take away his best weapon? CRABTREE ANYONE?

They've been saying that for a while now. Furthermore, I thought Tony wanted to go to a team that would be a real Super Bowl contender this year?

I didn't actually think we were going to make a legitimate run this year, but trading Tony kind of says to me that the organization is prepping for another top 5 pick. I can understand a new coach and front office coming in and not winning right away but damn don't trade your best receiving weapon in the same year that you get a new young QB that could be the new face of the franchise.
Losing Tony means that Dwayne Bowe needs to be fucking stellar.

I think that's a key element. We obviously weren't going too far in 2009 with TG or not, so if anything this improves our spot in the next draft as well. I agree with NOLA, we can bank on ATL slipping just a bit, so the value of that particular 2nd improves over that of the '09 pick.

I do find it discouraging that we're being openly vocal about conceding the year. Of course anything can happen and the Chiefs may still find success this year.

Two other points to make here...Without Gonzo I think we will see Cassel's numbers come in significantly lower. This could help negotiations for Pioli and crew when it comes time to talk long term. If TG was there to bail him out all year long and inflate his TD and red zone numbers the agent would have every right to bend us over. Without a future HoFer like Gonzo to slng it to, Cassel's stats should come up much more accurate and projectable.

The last thing I want to say is that Pioli seems to make quick work. He has made two big trades so far and hasn't deliberated too much on either. The Cassel deal came on quick from both sides and it wasn't a waiting game trying to leverage in the other teams who were taking a look. Now we have at least two teams interested (Falcons and Eagles) and Pioli made no effort to work one against the other. Had he bluffed the Falcons with the Eagles I am sure he could have squeezed something small, or maybe even gotten the Giants involved as I speculated earlier. Perhaps this is just his M.O. when dealing with other GMs. I guess it could be good in the sense that he remains highly respected and teams know when they come to talk to him it's serious. No bullshitting, just deal making - and you better bring your A game because he's not pussyfooting around. The fact that he doesn't nickel and dime and try to squeeze teams at the last minute like Carl did will probably do this franchise some good.

We missed out on Holt and cut Will Franklin. Yeah I would say that we have to take a play maker WR.

:banghead: Dammit! We have too many needs to take a WR early.

Man, Arizona did not just show up out of the blue and go to the Bowl. There WAS one year under Wisenhut/Haley/Pendergast prior to the 2008 season and Super Bowl!

We are a LONG HAUL away from being legitimate as it stands today. Hell we're just now starting a gelling process between a bunch of strangers from different clubs and philosophies. This shit takes time. Now we have an advantage in that Pioli and Haley know how to do this better than most, but we would be BEYOND touched by fate to even pull a "Miami" at this point.

Welcome to the painful part of building correctly.
