Chiefs 2022 Offseason Thread
#21

Well, that escalated quickly. I am equal parts excited and mortified.

The Chiefs suddenly have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds. IIRC, they suddenly have $18M more in cap space. There's a lot they can do with those kind of resources. It's possible the Chiefs could bring back Tyrann Mathieu or add another piece on defense. It's possible they could extend Orlando Brown, Jr. So many possibilities.

However, JuJu is suddenly our #1 wideout and only on a 1 year deal. In fact, Our top 3 wideouts last year are gonzo. I have always felt Tyreek was more important than any one person not named Patrick Lavon Mahomes II on our offense. That being said, I don't think he's exactly irreplaceable.

I have more thoughts on this, but things are still developing. By the time I'm off work maybe Marquez Valdez- Scantling will be a Chiefs since he is visiting.

Either way, this is now officially the start of the 2nd Act of the Patrick Mahomes era.

I don't check in for awhile and y'all let them trade Tyreek Hill? WTF?

I've been checking in but not posting but this off season hasn't gone really anything like I expected, for the Chiefs or many other teams.

Totally agree. This has been a weird offseason. I have had a hard time deciding what is and isn't worth mentioning, then we get blind-sided by this in the course of just a few hours.

5 picks in the first 3 rounds.  Is that 3 wide receivers, a pass rushers and an o-linemen? 2 receivers, 2 pass rushers, and an o-lineman?  Maybe a DB in there? Some other combination?  I say we speculate.

29/30: (Picking as one because they're back to back) 1 WR, 1 pass rusher
50: Wide receiver
62: DB
103: Oline

Actually 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. Veach has never had 6 picks he's actually used in a draft. Looks like that's gonna change, but I bet we are going to do some moving and shaking with that draft capital.

But yes, so much flexibility now. I'm more excited than I should be.

Yeah, that's a lot of capital.  I just wish this were a more exciting draft.  That said, this is a great receiver class (again), and receiver is a pretty glaring need, and was even before Hill got traded in my opinion.

Also, it won't require any draft capital to get him, but Odell is still out there.  If his dad talks any shit online, Jackson Mahomes will straighten him out.  Should be fine.

Not a fan of Odell. He's had some pretty poor catch rate numbers in recent seasons, about 55% since 2019. Was far better earlier in his career. He also had better QB play earlier in his career, so who knows.

Found this interesting tidbit. Here's how Mahomes has done without Hill in his career: a passer rating of 103.1 with 1,737 yards, 8 touchdowns and 1 interception in 5 games.

I have mixed feeling about Hill as well... he worked hard to develop himself into a dynamic receiver. Having JuJu helps, and we will see if any of the PS guys developed more. Hardman has no excuses now. It is most definitely his opportunity to blow up.

Today made me more interested in the draft than I have been for the last several years.

This offseason has not got me excited, no real splash signings and losing people to FA. I like the Reid and JuJu signings.. the rest I'll wait and see.

Pure blind luck... it's been protecting children from fire for centuries!
