Good read as usual, nK. I don't think I've ever seen as many bonehead things happen in one game. Haley was keeping it together on the sideline, but I'm sure he was about ready to have a stroke.
Things were going reasonalby well until that interception off the lineman's helment. It just got worse from there. I don't even know what to think of Rudy's miscues. As you pointed out, those had never happened before. Charles' fumble I can forgive. That's a 22 year old RB fighting for extra yardage, he'll learn. His play otherwise was a bright spot. I do share your concern about how much punishment he can take. We have to get a better 3rd back than Savage. Kolby Smith still hasn't made me feel warm and fuzzy, either. Like you, I can't fathom what was going on in Matt's mind on that safety. Did he think he was going to get by with that grounding? And you are correct about if it had hit Rudy it would have been a fumble. That would have been 7 instead of 2. Which brings us to Wade Smith. I got nothin'. The only reason he was playing was that Alleman was hurt. What other choice did we have?
All and all, we just played like a bunch of playground kids and got stomped. I don't think even Barry can put a spin on that one.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. And I'm sure some of you will tell me I am. But I'm not. Peace out, y'all!!

Since when is a pass to an offensive linemen considered a fumble?

It's just a pass to an ineligible receiver to my knowledge... why would a forward pass have become a fumble? It's a dead ball as soon as it touches an offensive linemen as far as I know.

If he's behind the line of scrimmage, it's considered a lateral. You don't have to be an eligible receiver to take a lateral.

It's only a lateral if it's thrown backwards.

If it hits the lineman's body behind the line of scrimmage, it's a live ball. This happened a few years ago (I think it was Pittsburgh, but I'm not sure) where they were trying to down the ball to stop the clock in the 4th quarter. The QB spiked it into the center's calf, and the opposing team recovered.

I did some further research, and it looks like that rule was eradicated, ergo that part of my complaint against him is invalid.

I was thinking of the same play. I also checked and it appears that rule has been changed. Also, a forward lateral (aka forward pass) must first be touched by either an eligible receiver or the defense. After that, all bets are off. That'll teach me to blindly agree with nk! :banghead:

Haley says "negatory" on any contact with Weis for the job.
