Thanks, it was very cool. I just went down to the school to turn some paperwork in and it seemed like everyone knew already. That was too bad because I was wanting to break it to my kid since I found it on the internet this morning. I'm sure the coaches have already informed them at practice.

We had 9 kids from our team make the All Conference team.

Well, my son got home from practice and said real excitedly, 'Dad, guess what!". I should have played it dumb and let him tell me, but I said, 'you made All conference linebacker', and he seemed a little disappointed that I already knew, but he said the coaches told them at the end of practice and announced each one. He said he was last and when they announced him the team started chanting 'fantastic freshmen!' because the seniors have given my son and two other freshmen that play a lot that title. So he was pretty happy about that. Then I had to show him the list of the All Conference team on the internet. Of course they spelled our last name wrong, but that's normal.

Double good news yesterday. My oldest son went in for his torn minescus surgery and it went as good as it possibly could. The doctor said that he needs to rest the knee for two weeks and then after that it's up to him to judge how ready he is for sports. He said it could be 2 weeks or 2 months. I'm hoping for somewhere around 4 weeks.

Then later that night we played in our playoff game and won 35-14. We are now playing on Saturday at home, trying to get to that next round. My other son, the freshman, played well. He got several tackles and a sack. What was really neat was I had my mp3 player with me that has a radio on it and I put one earphone in and listened to the game over the radio. It is really cool to hear your own kids name being broadcast over the radio. When he made the sack, the announcer made a big deal all over it.

It would have to be in the Show Me Bowl in St. Louis, so I hope that happens.

Pretty good day today. We won and now move on to the semi-finals, if we win that game, we are playing in the dome in St. Louis.

My son, the Freshman linebacker, had a great game today. We were up 8-0 and the other team had the ball. They swung a screen pass to the left and right when the receiver caught it, my son also caught it. He spun the kid around a couple of times, wrestled the ball away, and pushed another kid to the ground. He then rumbled 35 yards to the opposing teams 2 yard line where he was tripped up and fumbled the ball. Luckily a team mate that was blocking for him landed on the ball in the end zone for a TD and we go up 15-0. He also got 2 sacks including one that was on 4th down and had many tackles. Pretty darn proud.

We win 29-0 against a team that was previously undefeated and averaging 40 points a game. Well see how it goes next Saturday.

Just found out today that the school is going to give us a DVD video of the game and the radio station that covered the game is going to sell us a CD of the broadcast for $5. Could be a nice birthday gift for my kid.

Little update on my kids High School basketball team. They are 21-0 and are ranked 3rd in the state. One of only 6 teams in the state, Divisions 1-5, that are undefeated.

My oldest son is a junior and is getting more and more playing time. He had 4 points and several rebounds off the bench the other night. My second oldest, the freshman, is on JV and was the high scorer in a game 2 nights ago.

Baseball season now, and since I haven't had too much good news on the job front lately, it's always good to have something positive to report.

My oldest kid, a junior on the varsity baseball team, is leading the team in RBI's and hits and second in home runs. He was featured on the front page of the local newspaper sports section this week. Last night he went 2 for 4 with two doubles and 2 RBI's and my second oldest son, who is a freshman on the varsity team, had a breakout game and went 3-4 with 3 RBI's. He also had a great defensive game at third, throwing out a runner at home on a close play.

It was nice to have a good night last night.

My oldest son had the game of games last week as his high school team fell behind 11-0 early. In the third inning he got an RBI single to get it down 11-3. We got another run and then in the 5th he hit a grand slam home run to make it 11-8. By the bottom of the seventh (high school only plays 7 innings) we had scratched in some runs and we were down 12-11. My son came to bat with runners on third and second. He then lined a hit down the left field line and scored both runners to win the game. Yep, 7 RBI day was good enough for a headline in the local paper.

Then yesterday in the district championship game, we were down 1-0 in the bottom of the first. My kid came up with two runners on, two outs, and he had two strikes on him. On a 2-2 count, he hit the next ball over the left field fence for a three run home run. We go up 3-1 and win the game and the district, 10-1. State playoffs continue on Monday.

Haven't updated here in awhile, probably pretty boring to anyone else, but hey, the Chiefs just lost big and I wasn't that upset because of this.

My two oldest sons play on the same high school football team, the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers. They are 12-1 and in the state semi finals for the second straight year. We play the #1 team in the state on Saturday and if we can beat them, we play the #2 team in the state (which was also our only loss of the year). My oldest kid is a Senior and had been riding pine all year until the playoffs. Now he's starting and actually kicking butt. My other son on the team is a Sophomore and just last week named All Conference 1st team linebacker. There's only 7 guys that have made 1st team at any position as a Sophomore in this conference in the last ten years and one of those guys was Kurtis Gregory, formerly a Missouri Tiger and now with Carolina.

Wish us luck, if we win Saturday, we go to St. Louis and the dome and probably play the only team that has beat us this year.

BTW, here's a great article, check out the stud in the pic from Wellington:

Oh sorry, forgot about the thread. We lost. It was 13-0 with 6 minutes to play in the 4th quarter and we scored a TD after a long methodical drive down the field. AFTER the TD the side judge threw his flag and called illegal formation. Losing that TD took the wind out of our sails.

One cool thing was that after the game I was talking to the offensive coordinator and he said that we went the entire year without allowing a sack. And we are a passing team. We had over 350 pass attempts, our QB lead the conference in passing yards and TD passes, and yet no sacks. Why does that please me? My son, the sophomore that also plays linebacker is starting right guard. Very cool.

My son, the Sophomore, got a call from his coach Friday telling him he was selected to the Missouri All State football team. He got All State, 2nd team linebacker and was the only Sophomore on the team. Needless to say I was pretty proud.

When he was chosen All Conference and All District 1st team linebacker, I thought he had a shot at maybe honorable mention All State, mainly because he was so young, so second team was a big surprise. Not bad for a kid to be able to wear an All State patch for the next three years of high school. Here's hoping for many more.

Kids are in the Quarterfinals again. Hopefully this time we will get by it. If you want to watch some good small class high school basketball this Saturday, come on out to the Independence Events Center tomorrow. Should be fun.

http://www.independe...ball-games.html

My kids play at 1:00pm and I am getting pretty hyped up about it. My oldest, the senior, doesn't get a lot of playing time (although I feel he should), but my son that is a Sophomore plays a lot. He's kind of the enforcer on the team and has developed into a pretty good player. Even with his limited time playing, he is right up there with all the others in the offensive rebound stat. He's made that his specialty.

Anyways, I plan on making a day of it tomorrow as long as we win. We have a good shot. Right now we are ranked #1 in the state in Class 2 in the AP poll and the team we play is like #28 in the Freeman ranking (we are #3 in that one). If we win this one, it's on to Columbia next weekend to try and win the state title.

Here is the bracket, we are Wellington.

Finally got by a quarterfinal after ending our last two football seasons and last years basketball season at that point. Today the kids won 56-38 and move on to Columbia for next weekends Final Four. Looks like I'm going to take a mini vacation.

Just by chance that anyone is keeping track. We lost our first game in Columbia on Thursday in double OT. Metro Sports was calling it an instant classic last Thursday. We had a chance to win it in regulation, we missed an uncontested layup with the clock hitting 0:00. The kid felt bad, but we wouldn't have even been close to winning without the performance he gave. I know the KC Star had a big article on this that made him feel worse, but he didn't have to steal the ball with 4 seconds left, it was great that he even did that. Anyway, lost in 2 OTs, then won our next game 90-67 to take 3rd in state. Pretty cool watching your own kid play on the Mizzou Arena court and also watch him on TV later when they broadcast it on Fox Midwest. Fun weekend besides the loss, the kids did good. Finishing 3rd in state with a 26-2 record was not bad.
