Just got back from my sons playoff game and we did win. My kid goes to Wellington-Napoleon and they beat Concordia tonight 48-12 in 1A Missouri semifinal play at Concordia. What was great was that we had lost to them two weeks ago in the District Championship 31-21 and got revenge tonight. Last week we traveled to Huntsville and beat the District 9 Champs Westran.

The team is doing really well. They are 9-3 and have only lost to Orrick (1A State Champs and #1 this year as well), Carrollton (#6 in 2A) and Concordia, so they are doing really well.

BTW, my kid is a sophomore and plays junior varsity, but they did put them in on the games last two plays and he made a great tackle on a kid that was about to score a TD. The time ran out right after his tackle, so he did contribute that much. I was very proud.

This is probably something that wouldn't interest many, but I think it's kind of cool. My second oldest son is in Junior High School (7th and 8th grades) and they have a chance to do something tomorrow night that has never been done in school history. With a win over Concordia, they will be the first class to go undefeated in both football (6-0) and basketball (12-0), never before accomplished. They won a tough tournament game Sunday against Richmond, but have rolled in most games.

My kid does pretty good. He's about 6'1'' and averages around 6-8 points a game with a high of 15 a few games ago. Also leads in rebounds and hasn't lost a tip off all year. Not bad.

On a side note, my oldest son plays on the Junior Varsity team as a sophomore and he and my other son had games on the same night Thursday night. I went to the first half of his game in Lexington and the second half of my other son's game. While I was there I got a deluge of text messages telling my that my oldest son got fouled in a tie game with no time left on the clock and he went to the free throw line and hit the first shot winning the game. All weekend I had to hear people telling me how great it was and bad that I had to miss it.

Sorry if it sounds like bragging, just thought it was cool.

My son's (16 year old) high school baseball team gets to play at Kauffman Stadium tomorrow. He's pretty psyched by it. Wellington-Napoleon is playing Concordia (MO) tomorrow at 4pm.

He's not doing bad this year, he's a Sophomore playing on varsity so he doesn't get the majority of playing time, but he did start at first base the other day and went 3-4 with a sac fly and 2 RBI's.

Did I ever tell you about the time I scored 4 touchdowns in the city championship game? 4 touchdowns, in a row. :football2:

I realize this thread is just a place to toot my horn, but I love relating this stuff, especially when it's good.

Today I got off of work and had a dilemma. My oldest son was playing in a high school baseball tournament an hour and a half away from my work and my second oldest had a Junior High track meet an hour away. Both events started about the time I got off work. I went to the track meet in Lone Jack.

The track meet was good. Lots of schools were there including Braymer, the old high school of the Chiefs new tackle Colin Brown. My son had already finished two of his events. He got 4th place in triple jump and second place (for the fourth straight meet) at shot put. I got there in time to see him get second in discus, getting his personal best mark. His squad, the boys team, won the whole meet.

After that, i received like 4 text messages. I knew something was up because the last time that happened i missed my oldest son win a basketball game with a free throw. I checked the first message and it was from my sons high schools Athletic Director that told me that my oldest son just hit a pinch hit, grand slam out of the park home run in the conference tournament. I was happy, but pissed I missed it. I'm pretty proud of him, and I called and told him so, because he is a Sophomore playing on the varsity team.

Right after that, my sister text me and said that my niece got first in the sprint medly and first in the 4X400 relay for Warrensburg in a track meet at Marshall. Not a bad day for the family.

Anyway, 'But enough of my yackin'. Whaddya say? Let's boogie'.

LOL, that's what my sister said. Were talking by text and she sent me text that said 'maybe you should stay away more often'. I probably do make the kid nervous being there.

Got a call from my sons High School baseball coach today telling me how proud he was of him for fighting off the pitcher, going to a full count, fouling some pitches off, and then jacking it over the fence. I guess that should have made me feel good, but I felt bad all over again for missing it.

On top of that, I went to the local deli to get a sandwich today and got to hear from the lady working there how great the home run was. Like I said, should feel good, but felt pretty bad about it.

What gets me is that I have a pretty flexible schedule (for now), I can only imagine how it is for those parents that have to miss many games because they can't get off work to see it. I know Kojak said his schedule is pretty solid and it is hard for him to get away, I guess I should count my blessings while I can.

Yes you should. Just be glad that you could at least be there for one of your kids.

BTW, just found out that starting in June, my schedule gets even worse. :squint:

OK, I may be the only one that thinks this is odd or upsetting, at least I'm told that, so I'll see what you all think.

My son, a Junior in High School and a tall kid, fairly big but not fat, has been #57 since he was a freshman. He's been a tackle on offense and linebacker on D, so it's a nice solid number. This year they are converting from tackle to tight end, so he couldn't have a number in the 50's, 60's, or 70's. Last night they had a 'meet the team' rally at school when they would all come out with their jerseys. He's #1. What kind of number is that for a linebacker? I just thought it odd a big guy with a '1' on the jersey. I asked him and he said he picked it. Maybe I'm wrong for thinking that was odd. Anyone else?

My other son on the team is a freshman and he is also a TE/LB with the #84. That seemed a little more appropriate for a tight end. But linebackers just don't go well with 84 or 1.

I've always thought in HS sports the number really doesn't matter a whole lot.

Just an update on my sons playing high school football. My oldest son is a Junior and is starting on offense as wide receiver and my second oldest is a freshman (14 years old) that is starting at linebacker on varsity defense.

This has kind of been a big deal lately around town because he's a freshman playing varsity and actually leading the team in tackles each game. The team they play on is top ten in the state and we played the number one team in the state last Friday and he lead the team with 13 tackles. It's cool because its kind of unheard of in this town to have a freshman start on varsity. I had a guy approach me at the game the other night telling me to be prepared for division I looks from recruiters in the next few years. That's one of those I'll believe it when I see it type things and kind of sent a shiver down the spine. Anyways, hoping for a good year with no injuries.

Little update on our high school football team. In my last post I hoped for no injuries, well it happened. My oldest son, the Junior, got hit when he caught a pass and received a torn meniscus as a reward. The Orthopedic doctor says he is out 3 months (meaning basketball is out :( ) and they are hoping it is not a torn ACL, which would mean 6 months and no basketball or baseball (his best sport).

The team is doing great. We won our district and are ranked 6th in the state. We just beat our rivals who were ranked 14th in the state. In that game my other son on the team, who is the freshman starting at middle linebacker had a great game. He had the most tackles and had a few of those bone crushing hits that made the crowd 'ohhh and awww'. After, I had numerous people seek me out to tell me how great he did, so I guess he did alright.

My son told me of one thing that made him happy though. It is tradition for the freshmen to pick up the yard markers and end zone markers at the end of the game. My son had a great game, was muddy as hell, yet after it was over marched to the other side of the field to pick up the markers on the visiting side. He said as he was doing it, the head coach from the other team came up to him and said, 'you had a great game like that and they make you pick up the markers?'. He got a kick out of that that the other coach recognized him.

Anyways, into the playoffs, I'll try to update.

We won our playoff game on Wednesday night and move on to play Monday night against a team we beat 14-0 in the rain last week. Hope all goes well.

The All Conference team was named today and my son, the freshman linebacker, made the team! He made All Conference Honorable mention at linebacker. He was the only freshman out of 49 players on the All Conference team. Needless to say, we are very proud.
