You know what... Many people may think now is a time to be down on Mizzou, but I don't. They won their bowl game, won their division, had their first consecutive double-digit win seasons, and most importantly have been doing great in recruiting.

Between this year and last year, they're actually doing alot to refill the cupboard so to speak. Maybe they don't find somebody that takes Maclin's place or maybe Andrew Jones isn't Chase Coffman, but all-in-all, I'm expecting to have more talent on this team. It might not be evident this upcoming year... or maybe it will.

We've got alot of solid young players and commitments. I'm expecting us to be good at QB with Blaine Gabbert and Blaine Dalton. I'm expecting great things from our receivers like Andrew Jones and Wes Kemp. We've got a number of solid recruits at LB like Josh Tatum. We've got some warriors for our trenches like DT Sheldon Richardson and OTs Elvis Fisher and Dan Hoch. We've got players.

I've felt for years that Mizzou could be good if they could just shut down their borders, get the recruits they want out of their own state. That's happening now, and I think it will have a long-lasting effect. We might not continue to draw guys nationally, such as from California and Texas, but I think we're here to stay as a respectable program and contender for the Big XII North title for the forseeable future. I'd love to be a national title contender, but this is a good start in the bigger picture.

I agree it's a great start, I just hope your right about them being able to become a respectable program

Why don't we just pin Kansas and Kansas State threads along with Mizzou, like we did at the old site.

Missouri QB Daniel ended season with injury

The Associated Press

COLUMBIA | Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel says a previously undisclosed thumb injury on his throwing hand was partly to blame for his late-season struggles.

Daniel told the Columbia Daily Tribune he sprained a ligament at the base of his right thumb during the Tigers' final few games. That stretch included an upset loss to Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium in the final regular season game and a drubbing at the hands of Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game one week later.

Missouri trainer Rex Sharp says Daniel wore a cast for a week after the conference championship but did not need surgery.

Daniel spoke to the newspaper from Houston, where he is preparing for April's NFL draft. Neither Daniel nor Tiger coach Gary Pinkel previously disclosed the injury.

Keep seeing on the ESPN bottom line that Jeremy Maclin hurt himself in the some combine drills? Hope all is good that would be a shame to see it affect his draft stock.

By STEVE PENN
The Kansas City Star

It’s been the Southeastern Conference versus the Big 12. Crimson Tide versus the Tigers. And for Derrion Thomas, the Tigers have the edge.

Thomas, a football standout at Blue Springs South High School, is close to making a decision on which college he’ll attend. The son of the late Kansas City Chief Derrick Thomas had considered the University of Alabama, where his father played. Now he’s strongly leaning toward the University of Missouri.

“It’s the top choice for now,” Thomas said over the weekend. “I’ve had a lot more communication with them. There’s just more of a connection to Missouri.”

Thomas will have a busy summer. While Carl Peterson, the former president and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs, will present the late Derrick Thomas to the Hall of Fame for induction in August, Derrion Thomas will accept the trophy and render his own remarks.

He had started to prepare his speech for Canton, Ohio.

“I haven’t had a chance to finish yet,” Thomas said. “Obviously, I’ll focus on some of his career. The biggest thing for me that I need to focus on is the person that he was. There’s all the misconceptions out there. I think it will be a great opportunity to just clear that up.”

Attorney Kevin Regan has served as a sort of surrogate father to Derrion.

“I love him like a son,” Regan said. “We’ve been tight a long time. If Derrion Thomas goes to the University of Missouri, it will be the university’s gain on a very large scale. This is one squared-away young man. He’s grown up with some very adverse circumstances, with his dad passing in his formative years. Yet he’s been able to overcome that.”

Regan said Derrion has not only survived, he’s excelled in life and in athletics.

“I’ve enjoyed watching him grow up into this wonderful young man,” Regan said.

Thomas would like to study sports marketing at MU. He wants to become a sports agent.

“Football is something I like to do and pursue in college,” Thomas said. “But as far as after that, I’m not really sure.”

Thomas plans on redshirting his first year. He’ll move from defensive end and wide receiver to outside linebacker. He’s 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 208 pounds. He’ll try to put on another 10 to 15 pounds this summer.

As a senior this past football season, he was sometimes dominating. He recorded 15 sacks and guided his team to the 6A state championship game.

At Alabama, he would have been compared to his father. At the University of Missouri, there won’t be any such expectations. At MU, he just has to be Derrion Thomas.

Very good read Coach. I did not know he was contemplating Mizzou. If it's Mizzou or Alabama, either one would be good for me. I'd like to have him at Mizzou, but something tells me he'd just look good in crimson too.

My sister knows Derrion and his mother really well because she taught him in Blue Springs, but she never mentioned the Mizzou angle.

In my opinion, I think it would make sense for him to go to Missouri, because there he wouldn't have much expectations (other than Chief fans who are also Mizzou fans, and that he's Derrick's son, of course) than to go to Alabama. Plus, I would think that he would have a better chance of getting some playing time at Missouri than he would in Alabama.

Congrats MU for winning a wild game at Arrowhead. As frustrating as this year has been, at least we beat KU. The Tigers weren't supposed to have a very good year. Preseason polls had us finishing 4th in the Big 12 North at best. They finished second in the north, 8-4 overall and will have a pretty decent bowl to go to. Not bad.

I was a bit suprised that it was 13-3 when I got into Manhattan, but at least Mizzou got out of the hole.

Congrats on the win, Mizzou.
