That is what sucks about baseball, no pay restraints. It seemed like lately we were getting a little closer the Yankees were trimming salary and in effect Boston was too. This year Tampa does great by bulding their team like it should be built, front office smarts. The Yankees see the once lowly Rays smacking them around and won't stand for it, so they go buy Sabathia and A.J. They are in full tilt buying the championship mode. And when they buy, they make the Red Sox have to keep up and buy more themselves, so what you have is all the talent squirreled away in those two cities. It's a really sad deal.

But with all the money the Yankees are doleing out, shouldn't that give the Royals more in revenue sharing? I think a big splash for a pitcher like Lowe is what they need. They will have all this new stadium revenue coming in and the revenue sharing form the big teams. Need to make that splash.

Unfortunately a lot of the smaller market teams aren't spending money, even with the revenue sharing. Instead they are putting the money right in their pocket. So while we ABSOLUTELY need a salary cap so the parity can be close to that of the NFL, first these teams need to show they are willing to spend. Remember, if a salary cap ever gets done it will probably be in the $100 million range. That means the next question becomes... Will teams like the Pirates and Royals EVER be willing to spend that much in a season? Because if they aren't then even a salary cap won't help much.

Have a salary cap of $115 million and a salary bottom of like $65 million, that way they have to try and spend.

Sounds like a great idea. Baseball has to have a salary cap for everyone to be competitive. It has gotten so out of hand that its not funny. Although, it is pretty funny to see the Yankees spend 500 billion on a team and go down in flames.

Very cool if you'd like to see the new seating arrangement at the K. Put your mouse over the section and it will tell you the price and give you an animated view from that section. Kind of neat. I like the $7 seats in the outfield, that suits me fine.

Greinke agrees to four-year deal with Royals
By BOB DUTTON
The Kansas City Star

The Royals reached agreement Monday morning with right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke on a four-year contract that buys out his first two seasons of free-agent eligibility.

Financial terms were not immediately available.

The deal comes after Greinke, 25, produced a breakout season in 2008 by going 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts. He achieved career highs in numerous categories, including victories, innings and strikeouts.

Greinke had sought $4.4 million through arbitration before agreeing to the multi-year contract. The Royals had offered $3.4 million. He made $1.4 million last season.

The deal is expected to be confirmed this afternoon in a downtown news conference.

I guess it was 4 years for 38 million.

I think this is the first signing that shows how far the Royals have come. Five years ago, Grienke would have left for greener pastures and no one would have even noticed. It was just the norm. Signing home grown young talent for a long term deal is huge. I hope this is the start of more of the same happening with other young talent in the near future.

Listening to the Grienke press conference yesterday, I'm not so sure if this isn't a case of Grienke giving the team that gave him a lot of breaks, a break. He really sounded like he was sincere about how he appreciated the way the Royals handled it when he quit and went to Florida to start a mowing company. he said he had to leave because he didn't like to be around people. Zach said that the Royals were understanding and even got him a therapist that really helped him.

If he had problems being around people, it sounds like a town like KC would be a lot more appealing to him than a big city. Unlike Beltran and Damon.

With the market for a lot of veteran players coming waaaaay down, I would hope the Royals get involved with a couple of them. If you can get production from a guy on a one year deal I see no reason to look the other way. Dunn, Abreu, etc.

Sounds good to me. Sounds like a good middle relief or set up guy.

Farns is a homerun waiting to happen.

But he is a power arm and we all know teams love to load up with them.

Same old typical Royals. Lead until late, one out away from Soria and lose the game. I've seen it all before way too many times.
